Default New here ... could I be?

    Hi everyone,

I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place.

I just joined because I'm in panic mode. I'm having lots of symptoms that could be attributed to pregnancy, but I haven't actually missed a period yet. It's due to come Sunday, and I bought a 3-pack of the dreaded blue-line tests. I took one yesterday afternoon, and it was negative. I'm going to take the next one Sunday morning. I guess maybe I'm feeling the need for the opinions of the knowledgeable and understanding?

Symptoms: backache, nausea, heartburn, headache, tearfulness, constipation/diarrhea, toothaches (!), insomnia, sore breasts. I had a couple of days of light spotting about a month ago, but had a regular period a few days later.

Back story: I'm 40. I had a miscarriage (due to domestic violence) when I was 21. I was not far along at the time, and the I was with did not allow me to see a doctor. I don't even know if I can conceive. I've been on birth control pills since then. I'm now in a relationship with a wonderful man. The pill is our only form of birth control. I am fanatical about taking my pill, the generic form of Yaz, at the same time every day, because I also take medication for some chronic medical conditions - medication which I discovered last night might reduce the effectiveness of the pill (thanks for telling me, doc!).

If I am pregnant, it would be a happy - though stressful - surprise, but I don't want to say anything to my boyfriend until I have more conclusive info; we've talked about marriage and children (he has three already), but I'd rather not go there just yet.

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions or other reasons for my symptoms.

    Take care,
    spj

I agree that they sound like pregnancy symptoms... However I had loads of symptoms the months I wasn't pregnant and next to no symptoms the month I was pregnant. So it could go either way. I agree about getting a pink test. And definitely keep us posted! We love follow ups!! I hope it works out for you!

Definitely sounds like pregnancy symptoms. Even the toothaches, I guess, cause pregnancy affects the gums. I never had tooth sensitivity, but I've heard of far stranger!

I say take a test on Sunday (and for goodness sake, go buy a pink line test!!!) and keep us posted!! Good luck and I hope you get the result you're hoping for!

    Hi again,

Well, three blue line tests later (I bought the three pack!), each two days apart, all negative. No period, but it's only a day late. So, I'm going to get the pink tests later.

Thank you everyone for being so helpful and supportive. We've decided that it'll be good news either way - the universe seems to know what it's doing on occasion.

Could your periods be off because of pre-menopause?

Default New here ... could I be? - final update

Well, I got the pink test, which said not pregnant, and then my period showed, 5 days late! I think it's possible this could be pre-menopausal (though I'm only 40)!

We're feeling relief and sadness. This has crystallized our desire to have a baby together (and confirmed that I will try to adopt my BF's 3 year old daughter when we get married - her mom died when she was 4 months old), but obviously we don't have a lot of time. And I'm on a lot of meds, so we need to do it responsibly and with planning for my health and most importantly, that of the baby.

I'm sure I'll see y'all soon ... hopefully with positive, planned news!

Thanks for all of the support!!!

    S.
