Welcome to the board Caitlyn and Corbin!

Feel free to add anything and everything to your trail to track you progress. I, personally, find them very neat to go back to when I need information.

    And we all love photos!

Thanks ladies!! I am excited to have some place to write everything down and see what everyone has to say... well I will start from the beginning.

I started setting him on the big potty (he was facing the back with his back against my chest so he would still feel safe) at the beginning of july. He was just over 3 months old. On July 6 he peed for the first time! He did it twice that day! I kept trying but only had a few more sporadic catches and didn't do it all that often. Then in mid July I got him a little baby bjorn potty. This made the whole process much easier! Thats when he seemed to really start figuring it out. Some days he goes 3-4 times a day! Most of the time when I set him on the potty, he goes pee pretty quickly.

I have still yet to catch a poo! The elusive poo!! haha. The majority of the time he poos when I am nursing him. Sometimes he poos while napping.... Every time he toots I scoop him up and rush him to the potty, but so far its still a no-go! haha! Any suggestions? Anyone else struggle with this??

I had trouble catching poos with Leo. I tried the “every time he toots” thing and spent a lot of time running back and forth to the bathroom without any success.

At around 6-8 months, poops started to change from the runny ones to more firm ones and they decreased in number. Now (10 mo), he usually poops first thing in the morning for me (sometimes earlier than I want to get up), and I get up and take him to the sink. We co-sleep so that makes it easier to catch his poop. He tends not to poop for DH, though…

I would say to keep trying (you may get lucky), but don’t stress about it. There will be a connection at some point!

Also, I’d be very surprised if he pooped in his sleep. Likely he wiggles and rouses at least slightly to poop. Keep an eye on him…

Well I have still not been able to catch any poo. He is still doing great with peeing though! I feel like he is really starting to get it now. He seems to pee so much more also than when we first started. This makes me feel like he is learning how to hold it. His diapers are still very wet... its not like I'm getting all his pea's... but I try to set him on the potty every time I change him to give him a chance to go. Most of the time he does! You would think with a kid who poos sooo much that I would have an easy time catching one.... Not the case though!

    I'm gonna keep trying though!

Thanks Sophia!! I have been so proud of him. He seems to have really caught on. If I take him often enough his diaper stays dry!! Now if I could just catch that elusive poo!! I posted this on another thread but wanted to XP it here just so I would have it on my trail also:

Thanks everyone! I'm excited to be here. I love ECing and think its the coolest thing when I set his tiny bum on the potty and he pees right away. I am gonna try and get DH to take a pic of him on his potty today also... just so we have it to look back on. I'll post here when i get one! I just wish he would do the poopy thing on the potty also. I read that sometimes when babies latch on and off your boob repeatedly then it can be a sign that they need to go... He does that from time to time and often times poops afterwards (I just never connected the dots before) so my next step is to try that. I am also going to decide on some sort of a poo noise (like how we say pssss when he pees) and then when he poos i'm going to do the poo noise. Then when he sits on the potty i'll prompt him with the poo noise and see if I can get him to figure it out that way. I think if I can catch a poo then he'll totally get it. He hates sitting in it and he caught on to peeing very quick!

    I'll KUP!

Caitlin--you are doing great! The sleep-pooping phenomenon was part of what derailed me from trying to EC sooner...I just couldn't imagine how to even begin. Addy just grew out of that eventually, so hopefully in time Corbin will start giving you some easier opportunities to catch! At my stage, it's catching pee that's harder, since she has NO awareness of that, and there's no exterior warning, but with poop we usually have some kind of preliminary signs (farting, grunting, going quiet, etc). So if you get him understanding the pee thing this early, I think adding poop later should be a breeze.

    Good work, mama

I agree with Leigh, with Evie, since she started EC at 6 mths, pee never bothered her and her only signal was to stand still (to pee)....yeah, that's really hard to catch LOL! With poops, there's are usually (but not always) more obvious signs...the trick seems to be to know which signs they are. And once he has started on solids, it will take relatively longer for the poop to come out.

I just think Corbin is so amazing to get the pee thing so fast at 4 mths!

Well I researched some about how to solve the pooping while nursing issue. So I found where you can order this type of potty that you hold between your legs while nursing for them to poop into. Well I have a Tupperware container that is shaped the same so I just used that. I tried it on Monday (aug 8th) and he pooped into it both times while nursing. I was hoping to be able to see some sort of behavior or sign he would give - but no such luck. He was just nursing along and then BAM! Haha. I was also hoping he would see how great it is that he didn't have to poop in a diaper. So that was all the day before yesterday. Then yesterday I set him on the potty in the afternoon and he peed right away. His belly was kind of gurgling though so I let him sit there for a second and he pooped!!!! Haha!! It was the cutest thing ever bc it was loud and it echoed up out of his potty and scared him to death. He looked at me and started crying! I comforted him and he had this adorable fat lip bc he was still nervous. It was so stinkin cute though. So I don't know if he is figuring it out or if it was coincidence that he pooped the day after I did the nursing thing - either way, I'll take it!!

I'll KUP though on if it continues or not
