Considering trying EC

I have had such difficulty trying to potty train my oldest, and I am considering starting EC from birth with baby #3. I'm worried DH will not be into it, but I haven't talked to him about it yet. I'm curious, though, can you EC and use disposable diapers, or would the baby not be motivated to stay dry because they don't really feel wet?

I use disposables.
DD does not like to feel the poop against her skin, and she also gets cranky when the diaper gets soggy.
I only started using cloth when I started to toss away sposies that had not been soiled.
I did not like the idea of washing dirty cloth diapers. But the odd pee accident does not bother me.

Thanks for your answer, Louise! I think if trying EC means we don't automatically have to switch to cloth, DH is more likely to be open to the idea (it will be me doing it most of the time, anyway), but I brought up the option of cloth diapers once and he was adamantly opposed to it.

And you don't need to do EC 7/24.
You could start with just putting you L/O on the potty after naps, and first thing in the morning.

EC is such a flexible concept! we use disposables here, EC when she's being cooperative, only rarely when she remembers to ask do we do it in public, it took my husband a bit before he'd even do it at all (you're parts your training! lol!) but now he thinks it's great and is so proud. good luck and i can honestly say that the ladies on this board are FANTASTIC at answering questions no matter how odd they may sound! just be patient and have fun!

thanks to everyone who has responded. I have been doing some reading and I figure there is no reason to not at least try it!

I thought I would try it from birth and it fell by the wayside for a while, but we picked the idea back up around a year when we started having some major diaper rash issues. We had been in cloth and switched to sposies, and it did not hurt at all--like a pp said, my daughter does not like dirty diapers either way--sposies don't absorb solid poop!

I'm just adding this to bring up the point that even if you find you are overwhelmed right away with the idea of dealing with EC, it's really never too late. Gentle "early" introduction to the potty, paying attention to signals and trying to "catch" when you notice regular movements, etc. can still do great things for eventual potty training success--it doesn't have to be full bore from day one to be helpful and effective. I did probably the laziest, smallest, latest amount of EC ever that could still be counted, and still at 15 months my daughter is regularly telling me when she needs to poop, and happily going in the potty. Not all the time, of course (she is a super pooper and goes like six times a day) but at least once or twice every day for sure lately.

Good luck!
