I have always admired EC families, and been totally on board with the general idea, but never was able to get it together when my daughter was younger—she’s an extremely frequent eliminator, I work, insert one million reasons and excuses here. BUT, she just turned one, and last week I got a friendly reminder and decided to start putting her on the potty first thing in the morning, because I knew she always pooped within a few minutes of waking. It has been a MAJOR success, and now I’ve been catching all kinds of stuff several times a day—with her even starting to TELL ME occasionally (“Poop!”) when she has to go. In a week! I may have started late, but she was definitely ready…she loves to sit on the potty (we have a seat on our big toilet) and brush her teeth while she waits. It is adorable.
So, having been instantly rewarded with all this success, now I am super excited about the whole thing. I know the road ahead is not likely to be entirely smooth, and full-time EC is just not possible for us since she is just about to start half day “school”, and they don’t even have potties in the one year old classroom, but I am definitely going to do as much as possible. And I would love to chat with those who will understand why I am so excited, so: Hello! May I join you?
