Well, I thought I'd start one out - if anything to keep track for myseld of how things are going.

Baby #2 (as yet unnamed) was born at 5:14am on May 3. She weighed 7lb 3oz, and is doing great.

We planned to EC from birth, and so far we have been putting her in cloth diapers and taking her to the sink when we can or feel that she may need to go.

So far, I caught (if I remember correctly):
May 4: I didn't try. I was too tired and sore with after pains.
May 5: 1 poop (meconium/BM), 1 pee. But that's all she did that day!
May 6: 4 pees, 1 breast milk poop!
May 7: 1 pee (first thing in the morning), DH caught one in the evening!
May 8: 5 pees, 1 poop!
May 10: > 4 pees (can't remember and DH doesn't report), 4 poops (DH caught 2)!!!!

I've noticed that it's much harder to tell if Baby girl has to pee. Reed always got a little pee-on, and then he'd always poop when he peed making it super easy. Maybe that will start now that she is on BM poops? We'll see.

Hey, we've already saved on diapers!!

Today started out with baby and I fighting over breastfeeding for a couple hours between 12:30 and 3:30am. After we got some sleep, I decided that baby's squeekiness during her sleep was due to her having to pee or poop. I got up, turned the hot tap on (it takes a while to get warm), and then took baby's dry, clean diaper off. I took her to the sink and she peed!!!!

I did the same about 1.5 hours later and it worked - again! And again!!!!

3 PEES caught before 10am!!!! WOOHOO!

And then we had some misses... BUT we still caught a big poop later on too, and at least 1 more pee - so that makes 5 pees and 1 poop caught today!!!! At least!

OH now I get what you mean by trail. This is a cool idea! :) Maybe I'll start one soon, too. :)

Glad it's going well so far! I'm hoping to EC baby #2 from birth too. Though not sure how it will go with a 1 year old. ;) But it would be great to be able to just dump the meconium down the toilet hehe.

I can't wait to hear her name. Even though J came early I'm actually kind of hoping Baby #2 comes on our due date too. :D

Well, this weekend was busy but has some good surprises EC-wise!

Biggest surprise - We caught 4 (YES 1-2-3-4!!!) poops yesterday!!! I caught 2, and DH caught 2! I think she's getting the hang of pooping in the sink - or we ae getting better at reading her schedule!

She is harder to read than Reed was. As much as she is a better sleeper, and she gets restless if she has to go, about half the time she just pees without waking me up (we co-sleep). Is this because I'm sleeping more soundly, or because she doesn't make any noise? Probably a combination of both. It may make things a little harder later, but I am totally loving being able to sleep 2-5 hours at a time! With Reed I swear he pooped about 20 times a day and woke up every 20-45 minutes for that first month and a half!

Now, I rarely have to wake DH for him to take her to the bathroom at night because 2-3 times a night is no big deal. I hope it stays this way!

That is SO great! I'm glad your husband caught some too!

Morning note:

She squawked at 2am - so I took her to the sink. She peed and pooped! :D

Repeat at 4am! :D :D

Wet diaper at 7am... :(

Big fart at 10am... took her to the sink, and she had a HUGE poop and pee! :D :D :D I guess she's cured of my milk let-down trying to drown her! No worries about dry diapers here!

We've been really busy lately - even moreso than usual!

Friday night we went up to Lesset Slave Lake area and stayed for 3 nights (long weekend).We didn't camp out, but stayed on the floor of an old school house - DSS got the couch. We used pot (true infant potty training!) for most pees/poops since there was no plumbing. We used a combo of cloth/disposibles - carrying aroung soiled diapers when there's no opportunity to wash them for 4 days just doesn't do well for us, and no diapers just isn't an option.

DH got really frustrated the first morning because he was trying to be helpful and didn't hold Baby Girl over the pot long enough. He then walked across the room to where the diapers were and she pooped on the rug (after peeing on his shirt). He had had enough and he'd only just got out of bed! A well, we all have our days!

As it turned out, it worked fine the rest of the weekend. Generally nights are more successful than daytimes - and we catch most pees and poops at night (a few wet nappies but we have had very few poopy ones since last week).

During the day is another story though. Either BG is distracted more, or we are... Actually, I've decided that DH is better at reading her during the day than I am, but maybe it's just that when he does decided to pitch in that he does it right away. I've just been tired lately and not so quick to react... I figure that at least if we are catching some, we are doing well.

I've also noticed that BG screams like a banshee BEFORE she pees - but only during the day. This is great as a cue, but she hasn't quite figured out that if we are holding her over the sink, she can pee without screaming. In fact, she tends to scream and hold it, then I put her on our bed/changing pad and she pees there. hmmm... I wonder what the best way to proceed is. I don't really want her to correlate screaming with the place of elimination... Any ideas? Currently, if she starts screaming I'll stop holding her over hte sink and either hold her or put her on the change pad...

A quick update...

BG is currently named Ivy...

As for EC, we have had a breakthrough this week! Saturday somethng clicked and we haven't had a poopy diaper since then (wet farts don't count)! That is duraing the Day OR night!!!

Also, in terms of pees, we get a couple wet diapers each day, but she's started being VERY demanding if she has to pee - as in she'll cry her loudest if you try to ignore her and she has to go (most of the time). Case in point, we've had 2 wet diapers today (since last night). Also, I've got to a point where I'm fairly comfortable taking cloth diapers if we go out for a while because she'll actually communicate she has to go and usually hold it until we get to a place to pee (a tree on Sunday, the toilet at a friend's house, our sink).

I think I'm goint to have to tell the diaper service to cut back on diapers next week... we still had 25/40 form-fitted diapers unused when they came to pick them up this week! And I wasn't trying that hard to make a dent in it!

We were gone for a couple days so I thought that I'd give an update...

Friday we had our first diaper poop since the previous saturday (6 days!!!). To be fair, it was only 1/3 of a poop - as soon as the first farts were heard, I dashed to the bathroom and caught the rest there!

It seems that sometime in the last week Ivy has started pooping once/day instead of 6-8... makes catching poops a little easier!

We spent the weekend away (sat-mon evening) and used a combination disposable/cloth while we were gone. Disposables during the day, cloth at night.

Saturday night was terrible. I think Ivy was up every 30mins/hour throughout the night. I was exhausted Sunday. The way the bed is set up, though, only one person can get up to hold Ivy over the pot (the other person is stuck against the book cases on 3 sides - and it's just a lumpy futon on the floor) so I couldn't even draft DH to help! grrr...

Sunday noght, however, was pretty good. She only woke up twice! Maybe part of that was because we kept her awake for an hour or so before going to bed?

Another observation I have is that Ivy has to pee about 3-10 times in the hour after she wakes up in the morning. Each pee is about half a teaspoon's worth. Why can't she hold it and just have one big pee at that time? I wonder... Has anyone else found that?
