Day 3 of breasfeeding and I can finally feel my milk coming in. I forgot how painful the first couple of days are, and can see why so many mums give up when they see their baby not getting enough. Aubrey is feeding pretty well and cluster feeding at night into the early hours of the morning.

I think my supply is drying up!!!!!!! When I pumped tonight I got 1 ounce from left and 1.5 ounce from right. I usually pump twice a day and that may be why I'm losing my milk. I'm just now getting to where I can sit on my bottom. We're still supplementing with formula. I don't want to give up bfing but what do I do?! Help!!!!!

I'm not an expert - posting over on the BF'ing board can help but things I've read

DRINK TONS! Really you need SO much fluid!

Eat oatmeal! I've read the "real" ones are best I like steel cut so that's always what I ate.

Relax - being tense can make pumping hard

And mostly have him nurse as much as possible the more he stimulates your breasts the more you'll produce. There were times in the beginning Evan was nursing constantly. I remember sitting at night with DH watching TV and just swapping him side to side from 7-11 almost non stop. I couldn't hold him w/o him wanting to nurse at night. It was exhausting but it didn't last more than a few weeks (ignoring growth spurts where he ate like that all day and night).

    Default Nursing Vacation!

Carter and I are officially on a nursing vacation. I read on Kelly mom that this would help boost my dwindling supply so here we go. We're spending the next two days in bed napping and watching movies. I'm going to let him nurse as long as he wants as often as he wants to stimulate more production. Matt is going to keep me supplied with plenty of food and lots of fluids. I've got my baby boy stripped down to a diaper and me in a nursing sleep bra and yoga pants so we can have plenty of skin to skin contact. I know I'll still have to supplement but hopefully this will start the milk factory up. I'm feeling better and can now somewhat sit on my bottom...enough to comfortably nurse him. So that is going to be my weekend and I'm very much looking forward to it!

Good for you Jenni! I hope you can boost your supply! You should get Matt to make you some lactation cookies too! I hear they are really tasty!

Ohh enjoy! He's probably still to young/small to nurse laying down but OMG there is nothing easier! I had issues with clogged ducts and would just let Evan nurse and nurse while we were laying around. It was wonderful. GL! And no matter what you sound like you're doing great! Especially considering what a hard recovery you've had!

kellymom is great! how much formula are you supplementing? Could you try and go a day and not supplement and see how he does? The more you nurse the more you produce!!!
drink lots of fluids! I had a stomach bug when I was nursing and was so dehydrated! Supply went down ALOT!!
    enjoy your weekend

Vent: I have mastitis in my right breast I am on antibiotics 4x daily and have been using a hot compress before feeding and expressing after a feed if Aubrey hasn't completely drained the milk. I never had any problems nursing DS so I couldn't believe it when I woke up this morning to a huge red hard patch on my breast. Fingers crossed it clears up soon.
