Right now I have a thing that looks like a blanket with a little weight on one of the corners to hold in in place over my shoulder that I use to cover up with while I'm BF... and it sucks! It's always falling off and not covering where I need it to. When I returned my electric pump, however, they had a ton of BF goodies, one of which was a cover that goes over you like a cooking apron, and bows out at the top so that you can stay covered but look down to see baby and adjust yourself and you still have both hands free... plus they come in really cute patterns, so I'm going back to get one this week!

I have one of those covers your talking about, I made it, I never use it though. DS2 hated to be covered but I should see if Gianni minds it. I keep it inmy diaperbag just in case but I usually just use a blanket because it's easier to grab and through over my shoulder with a screaming baby.

So last night Trystan was pretty much inconsolable. He must have eaten three times in two hours and still wasn't full. By the third time I was pretty much dried up and I know nothing else was coming out becuase he'd suck and suck them pull away and scream (there was no swallowing sound and no let down). I finally gave in and gave him a bottle of BM that was supposed to be saved for him to have while I was at work today, but I just couldn't let him be hungry like that. Anyone else experience anything like this with your LO?

Wonder if he could be hitting a growth spurt or something so he's taking more? Also I think AF can temporarily impact supply. It passes I believe you just have to get through evil AF time

True! Also, my midwife said that AF can even change the flavor of breast milk in a way that is unappealing to babies. I'm sure things will go back to normal in just a few days!

So, I have a confession...we're still using the nipple shield. We'd weaned off it, but his latch is just so shallow. Should I try to wean him off again, or do you think there is no harm in continuing until he gets a little bigger?

I know NADA about shields -- I have big kids and big nipples and we all play nicely together. But if it ain't broke and you're not in pain and nursing is going ok then why fix it? But that is coming from me who knows nothing LOL

I would honestly wait until he is a little bit bigger. I mean if it is working for you then I wouldn't change it, Keira doesn't open her mouth all the way, She will open it a little bit and then suck the rest in. The first little bit can be a little uncomfortable but then it's fine after that.

Is anyone let down a little painful and tingly? When I am feeding her the other side will have a let down and it is a little painful, I have to push on that breast to stop it.

Krystal is that growth spurt and hunger still going on or was it a one-time thing? If he keeps it up you'll make more milk & then by the time he settles you'll still have tons to pump, lol.
Jasmine I don't have any experience but wouldn't think it a problem to use the shield as long as it's comfortable.
Samantha my let down has always been uncomfortable/painful like that. Sometimes it happens while I'm out shopping & I have to concentrate on not making involuntary faces lol. I get the sensation in both BBs but have never tried pressing on it. I think it was worse with my first baby though. I've noticed with this baby I can now feel a second letdown when he nurses longer, like after around 40 minutes... I guess that's what they call hind milk? Thankfully this second letdown is not as painful.

I can feel the letdown too and it's sometimes uncomfortable. And I still have to wear breast pads if I go out b/c if/when it happens when I'm out and about I leak like a faucet. Rory eats so often if we go out I'll let down after 1-2hours.....leaky leaky....
