Good luck, Rebecca! As I mentioned before, I give you and all of the other full time working mama's tons of respect with pumping every day...I dread it when I do it once in a while. I know you had mentioned adding an additional pumping session during the day. Were you able to do it and has it been helping?
I already pump 3x's a day while at work...every 3 hours. Then I have added an extra one after Kaylin goes to bed which yields a couple more ounces...enough to usually provide the full 15oz's I need for the next day.
It is hard work but worth it. Sometimes I think it'd be easier on formula but I know that she is doing so well on BM that I don't want to switch, I can take this for awhile.
ugh I am only pumping 6ozs in the am, can't pump again at work till 3 or 4pm and get another 6ozs, then 2 more sessions at night if I am lucky that yeild about 3ozs each and Im just not keeping up anymore makes me sad that I can't but at the same time its such a PITA...I do want to keep giving her the BM as long as possible though. Im guessing Ill have enough stash to go until Halloween and then what I am not making will have to start being supplemented with formula *sigh*
Isnt there a perscription med I could ask my doc about giving me to boost my supply??
I've been reseraching and reading up on different ways to increase. I know a few girls personally that have taken Domperidone (Motilium) - you have to order online and they come in 10mg tablets. From what I've read/heard, you take 3 tablets 2x a day.
I ordered some this week and it just shipped. It is supposed to give you a nice increase in supply! I too am only pumping the bare amount to get by and have tried everything else to boost my supply via herbs/teas/oatmeal/water. So I figured that I would give this a try!
I ordered it from here:
Kellysmom said it is ranked in the L1 category, safest to take during BF√*ng.
Good Luck Anne, I know how frustrating it is.
Let us know how it goes with the meds Rebecca.. I added two sessions and have now actually been able to boost my supply enough I am saving some in the freezer again..
I pump relegiously every 3 hours during the day. But Em nurses at night.. So after bed I do a pump and in the morning I pump while she is still snoozing. Her in the night feedings usually hold her till 8ish in the morning, so I pump at 6:30 before I get DS up for school and by the time I need to pump again she is up and hungry. Its those morning and night pumps I get to save..
Oh yea I can understand that.. Its funny after Em feeds (usually off one boobie) Ill pump and one bottle has 3oz and the other (the one she fed off of) is barely a 1/2 once..lol
Oh and do you know what my husband told me, I wanted to slap him.. He said "when Emily starts STTN your gonna still wake up and pump aren't you... YEA okkkkkkkk
Anne - As for getting the drug, you can get it locally from a compounding pharmacy with a prescription. I've been working with a LC, and the midwife in the practice is officially the prescriber. One of the benefits is that they can make 30mg capsules instead of 10mg, so you take fewer pills. One LC told me of a situation where Domperidone being shipped in from out of the country to an individual has been confiscated by customs. I'm sure that doesn't always happen, but if you can get it locally, I'd bet you can get it faster and not worry about customs issues. Good luck!
Just wanted to check in and say hi to everyone. BF and pumping are going good. DD takes a bottle while I am at work now. She only will take 2 bottles so I have been slowly increasing the ammount. She is getting a total of 11 oz while I am at work. Much better than 3oz when we started. Once in a great while she will take a 3rd bottle. Pumping is going good as it can be. Since she does not eat much I am producing more than she eats. My stash is growing. Looks like I will have plunty for her food and cereal when it is time.
I know your fustrations as I am a BTDT mommy. Whith DS I was barely pumping enough espically at 5 months when the witch returned. I had to do all the oatmeal and other tricks. Good luck and it is worth all of your hard work. DS is such a healthy 2 year old and I like to think I had a helping hand it that.
