Are your babies still BF through the night, Julianna, has started eating every three hours through the night again, And I"m not sure if I should keep letting her or not, During the day she nurses every 3 hours for anywhere from 10min-30, she nurses an hour or so at bedtime, which is 7:30-8:30(nursing) And then shes up at like 12, 3am, and 6am, and then up for the day at 7:30, I know shes really just comfort nursing to get herself back to sleep, should I let her continue this? Or should I stop it? I just don't know

Just came across this this morning:

Evening breast milk means a good sleep

Mothers who use a breast pump to express milk during the day and then bottle-feed it to their baby at night may be letting themselves in for a sleepless night.
Naturally occurring chemicals called nucleotides that have previously been linked to sleepiness only reach their highest concentrations in human breast milk that is expressed at night.
Nucleotides are the building blocks of DNA, but they also participate in cellular signalling and metabolic processes within cells. Several of them have also been implicated in sleep.
The chemicals had already been found in breast milk, their concentrations increasing in the first few weeks after birth, so it seemed likely that they are important for tissue development. Now it seems they may have an additional role.
    Milk round

Cristina Sánchez at the University of Extremadura in Badajoz, Spain, and her colleagues looked at the concentrations of 5'UMP, 5'AMP and 5''GMP – the three nucleotides most strongly associated with sleep and sedation – in the breast milk of 30 healthy mothers who had been breast-feeding for at least 3 months. Samples of milk were collected before each feed over a 24-hour period, with between six and eight samples collected per mother.
They found that concentrations of 5'AMP were highest at the beginning of the night, while levels of 5'GMP and 5'UMP increased as the night wore on. These sedatives were found at much lower concentrations in milk expressed during the day.
"It is a mistake for the mother to express the milk at a certain time and then store it and feed it to the baby at a different time," says Sánchez.
She suggests that 5'AMP in breast milk might be fuelling the release of the sleep-promoting neurotransmitter GABA, while 5'GMP is involved in the secretion of melatonin, which helps regulate the natural body clock. 5'UMP is known to promote the amount of both REM and non-REM sleep.
Since previous studies have also hinted that bottle-fed infants have more problems sleeping through the night, Sánchez's colleague, Javier Cubero, has been investigating whether sleep-inducing nucleotides could be added to formula milk.>
In a separate study, Sánchez and Cubero created a "night-time" milk by adding 5'AMP and 5'UMP to standard formula milk. Infants receiving this milk between 6 pm and 6 am, and normal milk during the day, fell asleep faster and spent longer sleeping than when they drank standard formula milk all the time.

I know you posted another thread about this, but I think everybody's different, and what works for one won't necessarily work for another... You HAVE to do what's best for YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! Obviously, suggestions and other opinions are helpful, but you have to do what makes you comfortable. My cousin and his wife never let any of their 3 girls CIO. Any time they made a peep, they'd get picked up. They are all fine and well adjusted. We let Desi cry at times. Sometimes she'll wail for a good 20 minutes. I don't think we're doing her any harm. Every family and every baby is different. GL!!! (and KUP!)

Hey we BF and do formula. E gets 1-3 (depending if I have free time to go to daycare and feed her) formula bottles a day then BFs for the rest of the day. She just stopped BFing at night...but I also started cereal which I feel like made a difference.

My left boob hates me - AGAIN =)

Girls Im having this weird issues with my lefty.. Now my righty is always been the "nice" one.. Produces more, and when pumping litterally empties in half the time as my lefty. Im usually sitting there rubbing/massaging my lefty just to get it to empty..

Well yesterday I started getting this stabbing/ripping hot poker on fire wanna slap someone pain when it would let down.. NOTHING like I have felt before (you know the few times I have had a clogged duct).. This is crazy and it feels like one half of the boob is litterally ripping off.. I have no red spots or knots on my boob.. WTF is wrong with this thing..

Oh I also have seen a HUGE dip in my leftys milk prodution, yet my righty a slight increase.. CRAZY!

Suzie - Do you think it is an infection? I would call the doc to see just in case. Hope it gets better!

I am seeing a major dip in supply during the day. Yesterday was day 3 of switching to 2 pumps a day instead of 3. At first I was seeing the same results, up to 17oz's. Yesterday I barely pumped 12oz's and had to break out a freezer pack for today. I started drinking the MMT yesterday (gag). I ran out of the Domperidone and my new packs should be here anyday. Kaylin still seems to be satisfied when she nurses in the evening. Ugh! BF'ing can be stressful at times.

I agree Suz... I LOVE BF, HATE pumping! But I do it because it's worth it for Desiree... The things we put ourselves through for our LO's! Is your breast still hurting? Did you call the Dr? KUP!

    Rebecca, what's MMT?

I don't have a strict schedule for pumping since I'm at work, and it kind of depends on the Dr's schedule for the day... I work the sessions in between patients, but it's usually around the 3-4 hour mark. I am so thankful (knock on wood) that my supply hasn't had any major drops. There have been days where it may be less here and there, but nothing that's made a big impact. Desiree's been nursing 1-2 times at night. Lately she's been going down pretty well around 9-10, and she'll wake up around 2-3, then again around 6. Unfortunately at 6 I'm trying to get ready for work, so sometimes the morning shower gets skipped! That's okay though because if I shower when I get home I bring Desi in with me which she seems to like

BFing stressful? Tell me about it!!!! We're still plugging along here after I thought I was going to have to quit last weekend. What a crazy roller coaster ride this is!

Suzie - Sorry about your pain. I know you said you don't think it's an infection, but it does sound a little like yeast infection symptoms. Is it a shooting type of pain? Hopefully it will just pass and you'll feel better soon!

I've been reading posts and realizing how many of you are still doing one or more middle-of-the-night feeds. We quit that long ago, but now I'm wondering if that is part of the reason I have supply issues. We dropped to 7 feedings at about 2 months and 6 feedings at about 4 months. I wonder if I need more stimulation. It doesn't really matter at this point - I can't get Sam to eat more frequently even if I try!

Oh well. Right now the goal is 2 more weeks to make it 6 months. One day at a time is my mantra.
