Hey Bonnie - Glad to hear things are going good. For the clogged duct, try warm compresses and massage...nurse in different positions to help the flow. It'll go away!

    Question

How's everyone doing? Still going strong?

My supply has been so much better, I am taking a crap load of supplements several times a day. Plus, I think Kaylin nursing 3-5x's per night helps too...even though I really miss the sleep!

She has started taking less BM and more solids lately. From what I've read, it's a natual transition but it still makes me sad. I have a feeling she will wean herself as she continues to eat more solids. I honestly can't believe we've made it this long, it's amazing!

At the same time, it'll also be nice to get my body back here in a few months. Be able to have a drink w/o thinking about when the next time I'll have to nurse!

Great to hear your supply is good! I am also a little sad as Ev eats more solids. He is such a comfort nurser though, it will be intersting to see how long his interest lasts. DH is convinced that Ev would nurse forever if he had the chance.

I totally agree about thinking forward to the day of getting your body back. DH and I went out for dinner last week and I ordered a drink for the first time since Ev was born...I was buzzed after drinking 1/2 of it!

It's making me sad too, Rebecca. And I also can't believe we made it this long! I never thought I'd make it to 3mths!

Wow! First time drink since ds arrival! That's great! I've had a few but M doesn't nurse now after 8pm until morning.

So - what are the new feeding schedules? How many times a day is your LO nursing and how many times are they having solids? What are they having?

Sam nurses 4 times a day and has three meals. We have almost phased out purees, so he finger feeds himself. Most meals I offer him about 1/4 cup of each item and he makes it through a lot but not all of it. When I can, I'll serve him from what we are eating, but I want to make sure his meals are well-rounded, so that doesn't always work.

7:00ish - nurse and then an appetizer of cheerios followed by fruit and oatmeal or cheese omelet
11:30 - nurse and then a yellow/orange veggie, yogurt or pasta, and fruit
4:30 - nurse and maybe a snack of fruit, cheese, or mum mum
6:00 - dinner of green veggie, meat, and any other fruit or veggie left over from earlier in the day if he's still hungry
8:00 - nurse, brush teeth, bed

    For Kaylin:

7am: Nurse for a few minutes (literally)
9am: 1/2 cup cereal w/ fruit or yogurt added; 5oz's BM
    12am: 2 cubes of fruit & 2 cubes of veggies; 2-3oz's BM
    3pm: 3oz's BM
6pm: Nurse for 5-10 minutes; Dinner consists of what we are eating usually
7pm: Bath time, Nurse for a few minutes, Bedtime

She has snacks randomly throughout the day from cheerios, to Mum Mum's, and Goldfish. On the weekends I fix her a hot breakfast, usually eggs and cheese or toast. And she always gets what we're eating, as long as I OK it of course.

I can't believe how time has flown either. Will doesn't always nurse so good during the day any more, too busy being interested in everything else, so I am thinking weaning will go pretty smoothly too. And as you said, though it is definitely bittersweet, especially since this is my last baby, it will also be nice to have my body back.

We are still nursing about every 3 hrs - 630, 930, 1230, 3, 6 and usually around 1 and 4 during the night.

He also eats 3 solid meals a day and the boy can really EAT! sometimes his solid portions are almost as big as mine!

I am thinking about trying to cut him off at night this weekend. I know it is probably just a habit of him eating during the night so I am considering trying to just comfort him to sleep instead of offering the boob and see if I can break him of the habit. Mama is tired!

I am starting to wean myself from the pump. I used to pump 5 times a day, and I am down to only 3 times. Once when I first get up, around noon, and right before bed. I thought my supply would have dropped A LOT, but it hasn't. I now have to set a limit, and once I get to that limit then I make the girls stop (unless they are REALLY sore and have hard lumps). I have roughly 2,500 oz in the freezer, but I want to make sure we have enough to last the first year. Then with Brooke getting fussy when I eat dair, it's hard to know how she will take to cow's milk.

    Any tips on "weaning".

I'm also still pumping 3x/day, but unfortunately most of my freezer stash has been depleted since she decided to go through a growth spurt when I was having a dip in my supply Right now I'm just pumping enough for her to eat the following day while I'm at work. I usually nurse her anywhere between 4 & 6 am, then again when I get home at 6 pm, then a nurse before bed at 8ish, and she's still waking up, so we were nursing around 1, but for the past week or so I've been cutting that feeding out... She still waking up though!

I'm thrilled we're still going strong, and I hope she doesn't ween herself off any time soon.

I have no personal tips on weening, Tara, but I've heard that if you only pump just enough to relieve the pressure, it won't be stimulating the glands to make more, and eventually you'll stop producing. HTH! I'm sure there's more information on the breastfeeding board here and on other sites...

I started pumping just 2x during the day, 4 hours apart and I don't like the bb's like it. Tonight I will have to dip into the stash for tomorrow's bottles, I hate that!

Kaylin is still nursing 3-4x's per night. It's exhausting! But if I don't give in, she screams and then takes forever to go back to sleep. So it's just easier to shove the boob in. I think part of this is the fact that she is still sleeping with us, so she is right beside me all night long and it's free access.
