oh michelle good luck!!!! does oatmeal help your supply at all? i eat oatmeal almost everyday, but i LOOOOOOOOOOVE oatmeal. i have a ton of milk, i dont know if oatmeal helps my supply or not because i always eat it anyway.
maybe if you nurse every time before you give him a bottle will help with your supply even though he still needs supplemented after. pumping is a good idea. was fenugreek bothering your skin? best of luck!!!
Michelle - how's it going?? did you try some oatmeal? Have you thought about domperidone? It helps me a lot but I admit - even with the dom I still don't get as much as some other moms do but I do get enough to keep Mason happy.
GL and KUP - I'd love to know how you're doing.
Thanks for thinking of me!! Well I do eat oatmeal everyday, perhaps if I didn't I would be in big trouble BFing wise! I really would like to get some meds (here it's called Motilium) so I can continue to feed him beyond 6 months. I feel he is having more formula than BM these days, I offer the breast at every feed but now it's 4 feeds he will want about 5oz of formula as top up (like it's about 1/2 hour after BFing)...still doing a full morning session but I don't get rock hard boobs anymore...they feel full but not sore at all, and that's after about 9 hours? He's been waking about 3 hours after I put him down for the night and I end up just giving him a BF and he goes back down for another 9 hours and has his morning feed but like an hour and a half later he's wanting more, he stays on for 2 minutes and then screams until I give him his bottle...then it's the same for the rest of the day...BF that sustains him for 1/2 hr then a bottle top up...makes it seem worthless even BFing him but I still have milk there, the tap just doesnt run long enough and he doesn't have the pastience to wait for another let down.
I'm glad you're eating oatmeal. Yes, Motilium is the same thing, different name. I can pm you a site where you can buy it (I don't know if it's kosher to post it here). Did you check on lowmilksupply.org??? They have a list of places.
Keep up the good work - you're doing awesome!!! It takes a special kind of commitment from those of us who have low supply to keep working at it. But it's all worth it in the end no matter how long you can keep it up.
Actually here's a thread on the breastfeeding thread that might help:
Thanks for that Christina...not sure how effective these meds are in someone like me who wants to give less formula supplements. I actually hadn't pumped a full session in a while especially an evening one and I managed to only get 2oz from both sides, parthetic huh? I may be able to feed a newborn but I can't keep up with a 6 month old! Granted it was the evening but still, I used to to get 3 oz from one side in the evening once upon a time. I can only try, I'll get a script and see how I go.
Well GL, I think you're doing great. It's all about what's right for you and your baby. Let me know if I can offer you any support - you're an awesome Mama!
Thanks heaps Christina! :) x
Oh wow, last night I went to bed at 10.30pm...Aaron ate fomr me about 3 times and he had a bottle of expressed and only 2 extra formual bottles (plus solids) for the day...so slowly getting more BM into him! But this morning at 2.30am I woke up engorged...I have not had that happen to me in a long time!! He was stirring and talking to himself so I got up and fed him (and he was full and threw some up! LOL), he had a full feed from me and 7ish and I have pumped some more for later...gettin there! This motilium is great!
Thing is I don't have many left so have to get another script but can you go cold turkey with those? Or do youn have to wean, does anyone know? Would my suply dip a lot? I have responded well to the meds so am not sure if not taking them right away would affect things or will my boobs remember?
Fiona got her first tooth last week. She immediately bit me and cut me. Cut me bad. It's now infected.
This sucks cause I only have the one working breast. Lefty is dried up since she was 2 months old (DD1 also only nursed off one side...for some reason they both had severe distaste for lefty.)
Also, I need to get something out. I've started her on one bottle of formula a day. She's just so tiny and skinny. I'm not cutting out any nursing at all. So, it's not taking the place of a nursing session or a solid food meal. It's in addition to everything. I really just want to make sure she's getting as much nutrients as possible. I don't want her brain and body competing for it. I'm hoping this will fatten her up some.
Anyway, she takes it from a soft sippy, not an actual bottle. And DH gives it to her. So, I guess this could be good, in a way, it will also give me more time to myself if I need longer than a few hours away.
How's everyone else doing? This thread has been silent for months now!
