Amanda- I'm glad the LC was so helpful!!! Call her as much as you need!
Oimiloy/Em- Jack will frequently fall asleep after one side. I tick him off to wake him up and get him to eat more . The other option is to pump on the side he doesn't eat from. Its really okay for let him eat on one side and be done. He's so young, its hard to stay awake for very long. If he's gaining and acting fulfilled, you're fine.
I was exactly the same Em, worried cos Aaron was only taking one side...now though he takes both so give it time. I expressed the other side or I would be too full anyway and if he did wake up I gave him a bottle (only happened once though!)
So, do you feel your breasts empty? Mine get soft for sure...but I have never seen Beni pull off and there not be milk there... I don't ever feel like my breasts get empty. I'm not complaining...just wondering what other people's experience of this is.

Ugh. Dealing with plugged ducts. So not fun. I was achy all yesterday afternoon and night! I may have to go visit the LCs again.
If I could just BF Kayley.... ARGH!!! I am going pump crazy! It helps that I do most of my pumpng travelling to and from the hospital but the middle of the night ones... they drive me up a wall!
Alyse only eats from one side at a time. My body seems to know this and I don't get too uncomfortable. I'm going to start building up a stock of expressed breast milk by pumping the other side after she's done nursing but I haven't done that yet.
Mara--I don't think mine ever empty either...when Alyse is done, there's still milk there, although I don't think very much.
I remember reading somewhere that breasts never truly empty--because you're constantly making milk. I'm definitely emptier and fuller sometimes though.
If Matthias keeps sucking he will always get milk...I see it in the corners of his mouth and then it dribbles out when he unlatches, but I definitely have times when I feel more full or more empty. I think it just isn't coming out quite as quickly after the breast is partially drained at the beginning of the feeding.
Jen, middle of the night pumping is SO HARD! I hated it! Worse than nursing in the middle of the night, for so many reasons. I hope Kayley is home soon so you don't have to keep doing it.
ETA: Are you massaging the breast while you pump? I get clogged ducts occasionally and that is the only thing that helps--frequent nursing and massaging during the feeding (pumping, you know what I mean )
Yeah, so much so I'm thinking my breasts are going to be dependent on it for making milk... lol.
