Christina- I'm so sorry you're having supply issues. I was there with you with DS1 and it was very hard. I was taking Fenugreek 3 times a day, drinking Mother's Milk 3 times a day, eating oatmeal every morning and drinking 80 oz of water a day, and I still wasn't able to keep my supply going, but I was able to make it to 9 months. I wish you all the best and wish that you didn't have to go through this. I'll be thinking of you.

Lia - thank for that. Not that I'm glad you ever had to go through supply problems, I wish you hadn't, but it does make me feel like I'm not alone.

Mara - thanks for being Polly-Anna, someone needs to be!!

It'll be ok. I just get really down about the whole thing sometimes. I know that sooner or later I'll have to use some amount of formula, and that's ok. I'd just rather it be later than soon. Plus I'll try to go another week until my doctor's appt and see if I can get him to give me the domperidone script to help.

On the plus side the pain is much less - down to about a 2 to 3 on the pain scale on each side - I can live with that.

But it looks like I'll need to further restrict my diet as the few things I've done aren't working. Mason is still so gassy and miserable. I read in one of the earlier posts on this thread that turkey, chicken, rice, oatmeal, applesauce is a good diet. Well, as of today that's all I'll be eating. That and mother's milk tea, water, fenugreek.

Maybe I'll lose all this baby fat along with it!!! I must admit, I was hoping to continue my weekend glass of wine but it looks like I'll put that on hold too - ah well. The things some of us do for BF-ing!

Thanks ladies - you really do keep me going!

I know I haven't been on this thread much but I have a question and thought you guys might be able to help. It seems like my supply has dropped the past couple of days. I started the nuva ring over a week ago but I started bleeding like AF yesterday. I remember with DD the bc and af decreasing my supply but it seemed like the pill decreased it quickly...like within a day or two. DS is sleeping 5 hours at a stretch at night so I was thinking that maybe my supply was just adjusting to him sleeping longer at night but today it seems that all he has wanted to do is eat constantly so I'm worried he's not getting enough. But if he sucks long enough some will eventually let down...so maybe he's just going through a growth spurt and it seems like my supply is low b/c he is actually needing more and I'm just making the same amt I was making? Does any of that make sense? I'm trying to drink more water. It seems like if I eat any dairy he gets gassy and has tummy troubles so I'm trying to avoid that..which is difficult. Any advice? Wait a few more days and see what happens? He was 8 wks old yesterday and at last count had gained 4 pounds and 2 inches and that was last week. So I know my supply was well established before I started the bc.

Hi Ladies. I've missed you lol

I am doing better, finally. I had a really painful nursing moment a few days ago where I almost passed out and dropped my baby. That scared the crap out of me, and I quit feeding from the breast (instead I am pumping and bottle feeding the breastmilk). I persisted with the Dr and was finally diagnosed with thrush. Thank heavens! There IS a reason for this much pain besides me being a wise. Tomorrow (or today, since it's three am) will be day three on the mess to treat thrush. I am feeling exhausted, but at least now I feel like I can continue breastfeeding. I'm still pumping and feeding, but I'm also puttin him on the breast after the bottle sometimes. Still hurting, but thankfully not to the extent I was before. And I always lay down to nurse now, because of being afraid to drop him. I'm hoping that by this time next week, we will be back to normal breastfeeding. The good news is hat I was able to borrow a double electric pump from a friend, and it has done wonders to increase my supply. Of course, I'm sure pumping every two hours around the clock helped too. I'm beginning to feel like all I do all day is either feed him the bottle or pump to fill thebottle. I swear I never have both hands, and I'm lucky to have one available. But I am finally enjoying feeding my baby, and I feel like I am bonding with him. So this is worth it for that.

Christina- I'm sorry you are so frustrated. I agree it's hard to watch so many women chose not to breastfeeding simply because they don't want to when some of us that want to have so many complications. *hug* Hang in there. You can do this.

Marie, I am so glad you finally got a diagnosis! It really should not hurt that much at this point!!! Kudos for you for keeping going. Once your thrush is all healed you can go back to Bfing if you want and it will feel so much better! You are treating DS too, right?

I just want to say I am so proud of you for making it this far. Honestly I don't know if I could have done that.

Lace- does you pedi or lactation consultant or hospital have one of those scales that can tell you how much he ate during a feeding? It's so helpful!

Oh Marie I'm so glad for you!

We are haning in there too. We have had several **almost** pain free feedings which is helping my spirits a little. I'll hold out until next Thurs when I'll ask my doc for the domperidone which should help with my low supply.

It sounds like most of us are finally starting to make the break through on the BF-ing.

    Anyone else needing help?

When I asked the pediatrician if Than should be treated, I was told he would be getting the medicine that I am taking because he's on breastmilk. Is that true? Is it enough?

Also, do I need to throw away any milk I froze while infected? It carries the infection, ri

Marie, must have been such a scary moment to almost drop the baby...so glad you're on the road to recovery! When I had thrush BF DD#2 I had to give her something too as you can cross infect each other, but I'm not sure if that's because she was showing signs of it too? I guess you may have to throw that milk away but don't quote me on that!!

I hope you can increase your supply Christina, I have been doing anything and everything to try and do it 'naturally' but he pees and poops fine so I am guessing he's getting enough now.

I looked back at my first problem and then my recent one and I finally get it...all I had to do was look at the dates...having AF(well the days leading up to it at first) is definitely making a difference in how fussy he is. This is my second AF (yes he's only 2 months old, my body is just built for having babies/being fertile)...and it totally sucks. I am pretty sure my supply is being affected, I went to pump and nothing was happening at first and all I got after 30 mins was just under 2oz...when several days ago I was getting 5oz in 20 mins...he still feeds every 2 hours but today I had to give in and give him a bottle as he was still hungry and yep guzzled the whole 4oz!! On top of him sleeping so long at night I'm scared my supply will end altogether but have tried to pump (even if it's a few ounces) about 5 hours before he gets up (and if he gets up earlier he can have boob and bottle anyway). I just have to persevere and stop worrying and doubting myself because he is happy and content and sleeps well anyway!

    Marie,

For about 1 day I thought I had thrush (it was just random nipple pain) and I called the ped about it. She prescribed a nystatin solution that she said I should both paint on my nipple and on the inside of Caleb's mouth. She said put it all in there on a qtip and go ahead and go back as far as I could even if he gagged a little.

As it turns out, our pharmacy lost the call-in script and then my nipples got better right away som I never filled it or tried it. You should call the ped and see if this is what you should do. I have always heard that both mom and baby should be treated, but like I said I've never had it.

At the same time he also developed a yeasty rash on his bottom (they can be connected) and she had prescribed a nystatin cream for that. He DID have the yeast rash but that scrip got lost so we ended up using an over the counter cream which worked fine. (it was the weekend and I didn't want to pester the ped). It was red bumps, mostly in the creases around his legs. I'm just bringing it up so you can be on the lookout.
