Marie, I was thinking of you today and remembering some other advice people gave me when I thought I had thrush. No real life experience of my own of course.

Temporarily stop using lanolin...aparently it can help feed the yeast!

Use dispoasable breast pads and wash your bras daily.

Technically the baby has thrush and he is giving it to you. It is possible to pass the infection back and forth.

There was something else and now I can't remember...I'll post it when I do.

Marie - my ped said we both needed to be treated. My yeast infection was likely caused by the antibiotics I got in the hospital. I got the diflucan pill and Mason got nystatin orally for him. You can also use a combo of clotrimazole and neosporin on your nips to help - that will need to be gently wiped off before nursing though.

Stop using lanolin until the yeast is under control.

My ped said I don't have to dump my pumped milk. But she also gave me some extra nystatin just in case. I'm still debating on dumping it though. It's a tough call especially since my supply is so low.

GL - I'm glad you going to get better soon. I can totally relate to your pain. It will take some time for the pain to go away but it should be a TON better within a week.

I think we are getting better. The pain isn't as bad as it was. I think it will always hurt for me to nurse, though. When Than sucks, I feel tugging inside my breast. I have to take it one nursing sesson at a time. But I think I've accepted that it's just gonna hurt.

As for my supply, it's wacky. Yesterday morning I woke up so engorged. I pumped six oz in ten or fifteen minutes from just one side, and I had done norming feedings all night. Last night, I was so empty I thought I might have to give him a bottle to fill him up.

    How is everyone else doing?

I'm glad things are starting to get better Marie. Have patience. The thrush pain for me took quite a while to subside.

I too have tugging pain when I nurse - but not always. I think that too will begin to subside. It can take some women 6-12 weeks to establish BF-ing.

You're doing awesome. I'm still surprised that I have pain too. It's not bad and still mostly when Mason latches on. I keep hoping that the pain will completely go away but I think that I too will always have some.

i too have varying supply for seemingly no reason - very similar to what you're experiencing. My doc prescribed me reglan which isn't what I wanted but I'm going to try it and see if it helps. If not I'll request something else.

Funny how much alike our BF-ing experiences have turned out to be.

Christina- although I don't wish pain or frustration on anyone, it's comforting to me to know I'm not alone.

I'm back to nursing almost all the time, and giving a bottle optionally (when my husband gives me a break). Than seems to play around more than eat thouh. Is that normal for six weeks? He will eat for a few minutes, then he will just stay on without sucking, latch/ unlatch several times, or mouth and lick without actually latching. I know he's not filling his tummy because he wants to eat about every hour. I don't understand why he thinks my boob is the newest and coolest hang out, but not a diner anymore. lol

Hey Marie, I'm glad you are making it through. I hope the pain continues to lessen for you.

It sounds like Than may just be comfort sucking sometimes. Does he want to nurse when you are in a busy or crowded place? Or when he's overtired? Sometimes they just want comfort and it is easiest to retreat to the familiar breast. Since you are not having any issues with supply maybe you should try to streatch out his feeds a little. It may help you to heal a little more. Since DH can be ready with a bottle he won't go hungry, but a 3 hour break sometimes feels like heaven itself on sore nips.

As for me, I'm having a bit of a random twang of pain on my left breast every 5-6 hours or so. Sometimes while he nurses, sometimes just randomly. It's not every time he nurses on that side either. It's the same pain I thought could have been thrush back when he was 2 weeks old. But then it went away and now it's back. It's deep in, and sharp, but so brief it's over almost as soon as it comes. Any idea on what that could be? No sign of yeast anywhere on me or baby.

Christina ~ reglan lead to my ultimate demise of bf. It was great while I was on it and then after I weaned off it was terrible. I was pumping every 2 1/2 hrs. On it I got 5-6 oz. When I came off I got 1-2. So just be careful

Marie- glad things are going better for you. I can feel a tugging sensation sometimes too, but, it doesn't hurt. Also, even when you feel completely floppy empty, you could very well still be producing plenty of milk as long as Than is sucking well. I know last week I had those couple of days when Beni just wasn't happy unless she was at the breast- and I felt like an old lady (completely floppy, weightless boobs), but I was still producing for her.

Susan, I also get random pains like that sometimes...I can't even tell you right now in which breast or when...but, I don't worry about it. Hope it's nothing serious for you (or me!)!

Susan-I'm having something similar and I'm not sure what it is either.

I'm still having some nipple pain, but that goes away when I air the girls out. Sometimes the pain is just because he's been nursing for too long (like hours). But I'm also getting pain in my breasts after nursing. It's a deep aching. I'm thinking it might be thrush, but it's not there all the time. I didn't have any pain all day until after I nursed, at about 5 pm. And then I didn't have any pain after I nursed right after that session. I'm starting to get really frustrated. Any ideas? My hospital has a breastfeeding support group on Wednesdays and I think I'm going to go this week. I'm tired of dealing with the pain and hoping it'll go away.

I've always thought that ache was when you cleared out a clogged duct... it ususally follows after when I was particularly full or sensitive or noticed a clogged duct
