I'm the pro of clogged ducts and I know that that's not my problem. I'm thinking that it might still be a latch issue. I was really trying to pay attention today to his latch and he usually has an awesome latch and I didn't have any pain, but then he had a crappy latch and I not only had pain while nursing but had the same breast pain afterwards. I kept trying to fix his latch but he was being a butt and wouldn't open wide enough. At least I'm hoping that I've FINALLY figured out the issue....

I'm considering not even taking the reglan and just trying to pump as much as I can to keep my supply up. I guess if I need to supplement for Mason's big appetite then that's what I'll do. So far we've been ok. I just hate pumping AFTER I've already BF'd. I feel like my boobs are out all day long.

Lia - are you sure it's not thrush? That sounds like the thrush pain I had. You can't always see the yeast. Mason didn't have much yeast in his mouth and if I haden't been looking for it I might not have even seen it. Just a thought.

GL - I really hope the pain gets better.

Marie - I'm glad you're able to nurse more now. It sounds like he's comfort sucking. Mason usually does that when he's tired and doesn't really eat a whole lot. Sometimes I have to make sure he's really awake (like I have to let him cry) and then get him to "top himself off" so to speak so he won't be hungry in an hour.

    Hi Ladies!

I went to visit my LC today. I'm going back to work in about 5 weeks and I'm trying to build my BM storage. I was concerned about not being able to pump enough when I'm away from Gabe. She recommended for me to add two extra pumpings in the morning for now (to increase supply and pumping possibilities for storage). She also recommended fenugreek to use when I go back to work to increase what I pump.

Does anybody have any experience with the herb fenugreek? I tried Mother's Milk tea, but I kept forgetting to make it since I'm always with Gabe. So I purchased the fenugreek tablets.

When I was working and nursing Sara I took fenugreek and blessed thistle together.

Christina-If it's thrush, it's gone away... . I'm 99% sure it's been his latch. Once I get him on, I have to adjust his lips a bit and sometimes take him off and relatch him, but I'm not having the pain anymore!

Amanda-With DS1, I was drinking Mother's Milk tea and taking fenugreek. I was drinking the tea 3x a day and taking fenugreek 3x a day (I think). Just to warn you, you're going to start smelling like maple syrup. Once you start smelling like it, that's when you know it's working. I'm really hoping to avoid taking it this time around.

    Lia - yay!!!!

Stacy - I also take Fenugreek and mother's milk 3 times a day (most days - I'm not perfect about it) and I smell like maple syrup I do think it helps. It's not a cure all but I really do think it helps. Blessed thistle is also supposed so help but I have not tried that. GL - let me know how the fenugreek goes. I've found it easier to remember and take than the mother's milk. I'm hoping to keep both habits up when I return to work next month (man is that gonna suck - but that's another thread!l)

Well I am staying up to pump, I usually do it around 11pm so 4 hours after his last feed and then it's 7-8 hours big break when he's stil sleeping...and I'm not getting up again, it's bad enough staying up when everyone is in bed. I am getting on average 4oz at this pumping session so I think I'm doing OK...but he likes to have that in the afternoon as a top up so not able to store it...I have 3 lots of 5oz in the freezer at the moment and seeing as I don't go back to work or antyhing it's good to just have it there as a backup if I ever decide to go out...but he sleeps well enough I probably would never need it for that!

I am using a Medela mini electric at the moment but am thinking about getting the Medela swing, is that good?? I was looking into hiring a hospital grade pump but a few months hire would cost as much as the medela swing and the mini electric does OK I just want something a tiny bit better...and it's got that 2 phase expression that the mini electric doesn't have.

If the money is an issue, I'd say you are doing fine with the pump you have and your current need... is it a single sided or double?

As for the 2 phase expression, frankly, I skip the letdown phase. It hurts! On the Medela Symphony it works much better but I had to return that to the hospital since it cost as much as formula to rent!

I have the Swing and it's a decent pump but it is a single. I'm borrowing it from SIL. If it's the same cost I'd prefer the hospital double as it just seems to take forever!

My mini electric is just a one sided pump. Well I bit the bullet and got the swing, I don't mind just doing the one side at a time but I already know it has helped me lots. At that session I was pumping, I was full enough and nothing was coming out of my lefty, not even a drop! I was getting more expressing via hand...but with the swing I now manage to get a couple of letdowns and a bit more milk too! So I guess it's going to work and I find it comfortable enough...so I'm getting pretty much 6oz now at that sitting, more than enough to keep for a top up and to freeze some too, probably a great result as I am pumping at 11pm!
