Carolyn, my medela swing has the letdown button too, as soon as I feel my letdown I switch over manually, I don't wait the 2 minutes...hope I'm not supposed to wait!! LOL

Aaron finally pooped!! 4 days without doing one and boy did he go!! I can't believe that much poop came from one little baby!! It looked like normal BM poop, just didnt smell like it! I really expected him to have pebbles in his diaper!

i have a medela pump n style. it has the "let down" feature that goes for 2 minutes, then you switch it to regular pumping. I always let down within 10 seconds, then i switch it right over to regular pumping instead of waiting 2 minutes for it to kick over by itself. Would i get more milk if i waited the full 2 minutes?? im an extremely impatient person lol so i dont like to sit there waiting. it also has a second faster let down feature... what is that for???
No, you should switch over once you let down. You'll get much more that way. It "sucks" harder and longer, which simulates the vigorous eating of your baby. One trick that works for some people (not me) is to go back to the let down feature one you stop producing any more milk. It is suppose to cause a second let down, but it doesn't for me. Raegan can cause me to have a second let down, but not the pump very often.

    Urghhh! So frustrating!

I pumped exactly the same amount today that Raegan ate during the day. My last pump was at 3pm, so I figured I would have plenty for her at her last feed around 7:30. She didn't complain a bunch, but enough complaining that I decided to let her have some formula. I did a little "experiment" with the forumla since I could care less if she wasted it. I made a 4 oz bottle and fed her until she was DEFINATLY done. She took 2.5 ounces. I then decided to see what I had left in my boobs by pumping, and guess how much I pumped...2.5 ounces. That little stinker!!!

So, it appears that she just has an issue, for some reason, with my evening flow. It must just be this extra little bit every night that has caused her to slow down in her weight gain. I've decided that I am going to continue to offer formula after the evening feed from now on, and if I can pump some out, I'll put it in the freezer. I think this will take all the pressure off of me - I'll know she is getting enough food, I'll be making freezer stash, and she will only be getting a little bit of formula.

I think I will offer her formula after other feeds randomly to make sure she is getting enough. Not all the time, because I know I need her sucking to keep my supply up, but I like the idea of making sure she is getting enough food.

Sounds like a great plan. I say definitely get a handle on it before she gets too frustrated. Gabe started with mild fussing. (I was in denial on why) I let this fussing go on too long and he started to have a full out tantrum at the boob. Not good!! I think you're plan should work wonderfully. It's just a little bit of formula, and she's still getting the same amount of breast milk which is awesome for her! You'll probably find that once you stops stressing about it your milk supply will increase a bit...mine has....and every little bit counts KUP

That's pretty much what I'm doing at the moment. I can't deal with the tugging and pulling and I am sore on my lefty at the moment. He takes the top up all the time at that one feed, only about 2-3oz and then I go express and I save that in the fridge for the next top up (so I'm sort of formual feeding that one top up every 2 days if that makes sense!) I'm not going back to work anytime soon so it's not worth me doing a freezer stash ( I have about 20 or so oz in there already for when I am away at any time just in case). It sounds like a great plan and you definitely don't get stressed with how much they are taking in and they're taking a bottle (for getting used to...I had such problems with DD#2, she wouldn't take a bottle for 7 months!)

My enormous milk supply has dipped since I've come back to work I'm still getting 6 oz two times a day at work but now my boobs are more floppy than perky. I'm thinking maybe my milk has finally regulated? Any thoughts and/or floppy boobs out there?

Floppy for sure! In the morning they are kind of roundish. Mine were pretty saggy prior to PG though.

    Booo!!!

Oh my gosh! Floppy is my new nickname!! I was a B cup before I got pregnant. I went up to a C. My boobs haven't been perky since I started breastfeeding. I totally fail the pencil test now. After my breastfeeding days are done I'm going to have to invest in some good bras to cover up this mess!!

Oh, and I think I'm going to pump to give Gabe a bottle for his 2am feed. He keeps falling asleep on my breast at that time (then will wake up an hour and a half later b/c he's hungry). He has had this problem since birth. I actually think his new growth spurt was triggered when my mom watched him one day and he had bottles. She said he would fuss b/c he was still hungry and so she fed him more. He never fussed before with me, but then again he always fell asleep at my boob. *sigh* Silly Boy!! As long as he's getting the nutrition he needs I'll do whatever it takes to get that milk in him.

To be honest, we are a mess together at night (when BF). I have to use a nipple shield and he doesn't stay latched so WATCH OUT!!!! I hated feeling all my good milk fall on my jelly belly. If my shield was filled with milk and he'd fall asleep I would open his mouth and pour it in! ha ha Oh boy ..... why aren't we more elegant. I love all your ladies new siggies showing off your breastfeeding pics. I should take a picture of what we look like just for kicks and giggles. ha ha We are a trip!! He's even messy when he eats from a bottle....that messy eating he definitely gets from his daddy!!!

You wanna talk about messy Amanda.... I have hyperlactation so if Miles pulls off my breast I'm literally spraying everywhere. It makes NIP impossible. So I always have to feed him in the car. lol.
