Hi Ladies- Introducing myself :) *Long*

Hi Ladies, I wanted to introduce myself over here and jump in on your conversations! My name is Ashly, I am a sahm to 4 kids! 7,5,3,2 and a new one due in Jan. I really want to bf #5 and I have a goal of getting to at least 30 days! My husband is going to a huge support factor and I have a breastfeeding peer helper set up through a local breastfeeding suport group. Here is a little backround

DD1- Teen Mom didn't want to bf
DD2- Born 32 weeks had trouble pumping to get enough for her, she couldn't handle certain things and was on neocate
DS1- Tounge Tie that they would not clip dr said by the time we figure it out it would be no use to breast feed but he also ended up on Alimentum formula
DS2- Born with chronic lung disease, on a vent, wasn't supposed to live but he did!

So as you can see NO REAL HELP! But I am going to do this! I will be using a pump at some point. I bought a ring sling today to help me with the others running around!

My big concern right now is trying to feed a newborn with 4 wild kids asking me something, wanting something just running crazy. Any advice?

Wow, what a story! I hope you're able to make your goal of 30 days and even go beyond that. :)

It's very possible to nurse in a ring sling. It's my favorite carrier to nurse in. There are youtube videos showing you different ways to do it too!

I have no pointers on how to do it with that many littles around... but I bf mostly cause I'm lazy ;) once I get baby latched on. I can easily carry them around while nursing... but evie has a lip tie and keeps slipping, so it's not my desire to do that often.

but I just want to encourage you in your desire! God will give you the desires of your heart. He's placed this baby in your womb and has cared for her every step of the way including through your hernia operation. I KNOW he will give you and her the ability to nurse and have a wonderful breastfeeding relationship and I get the sense that it will be for a good and long time! :bigarmhug:

You can do it! I second the lazy thing... if you think about it, you have to feed the baby, bottle or breast, and either way for some time you need to hold the bottle, or the baby (or both lol) to get it done... so the older kids will learn some patience, and maybe even have some special toys that only come out for nursing time, and get put right away when done nursing, to keep them exciting and new. :) You can do it Ashly!!

You can do it!! If you tell yourself you "will" do it then you will. Don't give yourself an out! I agree with pp on having special toys that you bring out while nursing. Also, sometimes I would read a book to my older 2 kids while nursing. Sometimes I would make DH watch the older 2 and I would lock myself in the bedroom for quiet, relaxing nursing time....lol. Not as often as I would have liked though :D

You can do it! I agree with PP about having special toys, reading time or even coloring/art time during nursing sessions. My DS was really little (~18 months) when DD was born and needed everything all the time, couldn't sit still etc. but I got through those first couple weeks and he eventually adjusted to having to wait while mommy feeds the baby. With your kiddos being older they will adjust fast to the fact that they have to wait when you are nursing.

Thank you ladies for your support and advice I might try special toys! I have my 30 day goal and I am sticking to it and hope to make it a 365 day goal!
