Painful first few seconds

I never had any pain or issues with DS1 so this pain I'm experiencing is new to me. DS2 has a very slight tongue tie. According to the doctor it's no need for it to be clipped but I may insist on it depending...The LC at the hospital watched me nurse as soon as he was born (8/13) and never commented on a bad latch. The first 5-10 seconds of nursing make me literally cringe then after that it's a breeze. They're also tender to the touch. Is this just a normal part of the process? If I have to re-latch him, it's not painful just at the beginning.

Also, I'm not cracked or bleeding or anything like that. My nips look perfectly normal. Is this pain I'm experience due to a bad latch?

I seem to recall experiencing that momentarily pain/discomfort in the few few seconds. I think it is perfectly normal! Should go away within a week or two as you get used to nursing again.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Yup, I had that, and it lasted a couple weeks, and then all of a sudden one day I realized it was gone. Hope it passes quickly for you!
