Question Question on how much to pump

Hey ladies! So yay we've made it to 9 months exclusively breastfeeding and Ben is doing great! He's been taking a sippy cup for about a month with water(sometimes juice) and it's finally drinking from it. Our 6th wedding anniversary is coming up at the end of January and we plan to go away for 3 days(2 nights). I have a medela pump but have really only tried it twice. Ben refused the bottle so I'm hoping to try again or give him the pumped milk in a cup. He's nursing about 5-6 times during the day and 2-3 at night in addition to 6-8 oz of baby food 3 times a day. Not sure how to estimate the ounces that equals out to. My question is how much should I plan to leave? And is the best way to stock up to pump after each feeding? Wish me luck! TIA

How many oz of BM does he drink during each feeding? That will tell you how much BM you will need to leave for him to have each day. Freezing your BM in medela BM bags is the best way to save it, as your milk is good for up to 5 months that way! Good luck!

My guess is around 24-35oz a day for a 9 month old. I also second the freezing of the medela bags. Don't overfill them either, it will cause leaks! learned that the hard way!

Krystal - Not sure since he's breastfeesting exclusively. I did order some medela bags. Thanks

Mel - Thanks for the heads up on overfilling! I did find some info on kellymom and I estimated around 30 ounces a day.

Glad to know I wasn't way off on the estimate!

    How is the pumping going?

Off to a rocky start! I did get my first 5 ounces tho. We all got colds a few days ago so I stopped so that Ben could stay hydrated while sick. I'm going slow. Getting about 1-2 ounces 3 times a day. I did find a bottle that he likes. The First Years Breastflow.

sounds good! Yeah, so tough when you have a cold, both on him and you! Glad you found a bottle that he likes though! I went through 6 different types before Olivia would take one!

Try nursing and pumping during his morning feeding. That's how I built up my freezer stash.
