Wow, some fantastic advice here. Wish I'd known about the newborn diaper idea. I probably leak more milk than some babies eat! Lol... I also LOVE the lansinoh pre-shower idea. Wish I'd known that for the early days. A lot of great things, only one I can think of that isn't here.
MY ADVICE: If the damage to your nipples gets really bad, ask your doctor/midwife for a prescription for Jack Newman's Nipple Ointment. I had some terrible damage, so bad that the Lansinoh was useless. But the ointment was a godsend. Just FYI, even after the terrible damage I had, large chunks taken out of my nipples (which is HIGHLY unusual, new moms!!), I am nursing my second child, nursing is easy and comfortable, and he is now one year old and has never had a bottle. :)

I wish I had known all of these wonderful and amazing tips with my first three babies! It wasn't until this last pregnancy that I really delved into everything BF!! I'm on track to faithfully BF for the entire first year, regardless of what I have to do! I'm so proud to say that Trystan is almost one month old and he hasn't had a drop of formula yet... and I've been back to work for a week now! I'm pumping every two hours at work for DH or my mom (whoever he'll be with) to feed him the next day. At first I was worried about only getting 1oz out of each breast with each pumping session, but after reading all of the wonderful posts on here I found out that this was completely normal! So my tip is just to keep your chin up and stay positive... you CAN do this!

Yes Karim's advice is spot on. You would be amazed what a difference the position can make. On the whole I was quite lucky with breastfeeding. It just takes some diet changes as I realised some of the foods I enjoyed eating my baby didn't enjoy as much. So I had to stop eating them while breastfeeding because they were giving him wind.
