What would you do?
So DD is 10.5 months old and BF is still going well. The problem is pumping. She goes to daycare 3 days a week and takes 15oz of pumped milk there (3 feedings). I pump 3 times while at work from both sides with double electric pump and am only getting 5oz all day. That amount has decreased from 12oz when she was 3 months. My freezer stash is almost out and will make it probably 4 weeks, putting me 2-3 weeks shy of her 1st birthday. I plan on continuing nursing longer but was going to stop pumping at a year.
Question is: would you finish out the stash and go cold turkey with cow/soy milk (she has been lactose sensitive and I need to figure out if she still is), or would you start phasing in the milk now???
How is solid foods going? I wouldn't worry too much about trying to replace BM with a different form of milk if solids are going well. A couple of weeks ago I let Aiden try milk. He doesn't like it but no reaction to it (as expected since he's had milk products in his food since 6 months). I haven't offered but a couple of times and usually just give him water. He doesn't BF but 3 MAYBE 4 times in 24 hours, but he is a big solid food eater. I don't feel that Aiden is going to get much benefit from cows milk, so I'm not going to press the issue. I read on KellyMom that as long as the child is BFing 3 times a day, there's no real reason to give other forms of milk. So maybe introduce milk and see how it goes, but don't panic if you stop pumping and run out of your stash as long as your still BFing when you can.
I am in a similar position. I get barely two onces of pumped milk a day, and my stash is runing out. I've started introducing DD to small quatities of cow's milk now and then, to get her use to it. When I run out, I'll just put her on cow's milk for daycare.
At 10.5 months I'd give formula instead of cow's milk if those were the choices. If she were closer to a year you could try whole milk, but both my kids didn't tolerate it well until they were closer to 15mo. With DD, she drank more than I pumped and we had to do about 4-6oz of formula a day and although it wasn't ideal it kept her happy.
Solid food is okay. She eats it, but really not much. When I'm home she nurses 7-8 times in a 24 hour period. On days when I'm not home (3 days) it's 3-4 times. Interesting what Kelly Mom says...hmmmmm

Over a period of 3 weeks, I increased the amount of cow's milk I sent and now she's just getting cow's milk at daycare. If your DD is nursing just fine at home and eats solids well, I think that would be perfectly fine.
