    Default When/Where to pump?

So my mom, sister and I want to go see a Broadway play in early spring. I'll still be exclusively nursing and it will likely be a 10+ hour day of going to the city, doing lunch etc seeing the play and coming home. Where do you pump when you spend a day like that? We won't be going to anyones home. I have a Medela Freestyle which works on battery and is easy to bring places that's not a problem but WHERE do I physically pump? Public bathrooms are foul. I don't care much about saving the actual milk, if I can great if not I'll survive (I have 250 oz frozen and will likely have at least 50-100 more before I go back to work in Feb). But I'm trying to figure out how I go enjoy a day with my family in NYC w/pumping.....

Hi Katie! My only suggestion to you might be a department store, in one of their dressing rooms. I don't blame you about public restrooms, so if I were you I would just hop into a dressing room if you can and do it there... otherwise I have no idea?!?! Make sure you pump in the car on the way there and on the way home, that way you can limit yourself to just having to pump twice while you're in the actual city (every 3-4 hours). Good luck!

    Ugh that's the other problem -- we'll take the train! I can't pump on a train.....bah!

Yeah, I was reading Krystal's post thinking ... no way is she driving unless she's crazy! I say drain yourself as much as you possibly can before you leave. Then, find somewhere after lunch to pump. What about outside somewhere? Pick a lunch spot near Central Park and then plop down on a bench somewhere. Would your mom or sister could hold a blanket up for you while you get hooked up. Once its hooked up it would be kinda like NIP. If you're not comfortable with that then I second the dressing room idea. Gives you an excuse to do some shopping too. Could you pump on the train on the way back? It'll be so loud no one will hear what you're doing. I've had to pump in bathrooms before and it's icked me out. NYC bathrooms can be a whole different ballgame though.

Is there anywhere you are going where a parents room would be available. I used to have to travel a lot for work when I was pumping and would take my medlea freestyle with me. I have pumped in a car park under a tree and all. A few times I have been in a larger town where pulling up on the side of the road to pump was not an option and I would head to a shopping centre and express in the parents room. They were always clean and tidy and one even had private rooms I would use.

Hm we definitely will do a little light shopping - nothing crazy - but enough to probably find a dressing room. I don't own a cover but maybe I'll buy one for this adventure. I don't really use them with NIP but pumping is a different ball of wax!

I agree with going to a park somewhere or dressing room.

I would buy a cover so you have the option of pumping in the park, but also look up where the big department stores might be in relation to where you are. What about a baby store? Are there any in the area you are going that might have a nursing room?
