Frustrated with a sick baby

Hey there. Just needed to vent about increased nursing and I knew you ladies would understand. Katie has been sick for about four days now, fever ranging from 102-104 if she's unmedicated. She has little to no interest in eating, just nursing and sleeping... and nursing and nursing and nursing! I am so touched out, but I know that at least I'm keeping her hydrated from my milk. She was only nursing about 3-4x a day before this (mostly at naptime/bedtime/morning) so this is quite a change. My milk supply is going to be waaaaay up after she gets over this. Wish me luck, we have a second doctor's appointment this afternoon. Hopefully they can get her well! Thanks for listening.

Poor baby and poor mommy! As trying as it is, I know that when Mady is sick and nursing is the only thing that will comfort her, I'm SO happy that I am still nursing! Hopefully this will be short lived and you'll be back to your normal schedule very soon.
Do you know what is wrong with her? With a fever that high, I wonder if it is Roseola? Keep us posted.

Aw...that does sound rough for you! The mixed feelings of being happy she's getting good nutrients, and the frustration of going backwards. Oy...lots of sympathy over here!!! All I can say is, in the grand scheme of their lives (and ours) this really is a small part of it. One day you'll realize you haven't nursed in years and wonder where those days went. Sending healthy vibes your way, and here's to some semblance of your routine returning very soon!!

Liz, you called it, Roseola! The doc thought perhaps it was something else since the fever had gone on extra long (i guess it's usually 3 days then rash), her rash showed up this morning and no more fever. :) Thanks, girls!

Roseola is awful, but it (usually) goes quickly at least. Mady had it and her fever (even with medicine) was 103.5 - SO scary!!! Glad you are through it and hopefully the nursing goes back to "normal"!

Gosh I've been there! Pinned on the sofa under the baby for what feels like the fifth hour of the day, contemplating my stacks of laundry, dirty dishes and a toddler pulling my leg to get me to go play outside... ((hugs))... this too shall pass! :)

Glad to hear you have a diagnosis and hopefully things will return to nornal soon!

I can SO relate! My son was sick for about 10 days two or three weeks ago (right after his 1st birthday) ~ he stopped eating and nursed only for about 8 or 9 days....it culminated in a 3 day hospital stay for pneumonia. One night I literally threw up from being so touched out ~ after a marathon nursing session only to have nurses wake the poor guy up AGAIN and having to start over with getting him to sleep I was SICK! I lost about 5 lbs from all of the nursing and my supply is way too high now as a result. I was physically exhausted. Thankfully he returned to health quickly with the ABX but he is still nursing more ~ I also agree with whoever said that it made them so happy to still be nursing, I literally have no idea how I could have hydrated or comforted him during that awful week or two had we not been nursing. Hope your LO is on the mend!
