How to tell when a nipple laceration is infected?

Sad

I have a nipple laceration and I've had it all week. It usually takes a few weeks for mine to heal. I usually get it in the same spot. Well, today, while in the shower, I noticed that there is a mass directly beneath the skin where the laceration is. It's a hard lump. I hurts to push or pinch it, but my skin is also torn there and that could be the cause of pain.

I've never noticed this before when I've had a laceration and that location is the most frequent laceration site for me.

Is it infected?

It's not oozing. But gosh darn it, nursing seems more painful that usual, even for a laceration being present.

Should I call the doc?

I put breast milk on it after the shower and angled my breast so that it sat on the wound for about 5 minutes before I got dressed again.

Anyone experience this before?

Thanks.

Well, in any case.. it's better today.

I limited nursing on that side and applied bm to it and let it air out and the wound is all but healed and the "hardness" below it is softening up. Still not sure if it was infected or what, but it's better anyway.

Oh, also.. I wonder if it could have just be hormone related? I am using OPK's to detect LH surge (still in LAM) and got a couple hard to tell if positive strips yesterday. Some ovulation symptoms today, but without the sure-fire positive lines, not sure if it's happening or not..
