I guess I need to move over to this board now! DD turned 1 yesterday and we are still going strong with nursing!! I'm so happy because DS never nursed (pumped for 4 months) and I wasn't sure how long DD and I would make it!
I have some questions/concerns though! I no longer want to pump while at work (3 days a week for 10 hours). Is my supply going to tank mostly likely on the days I am home mid-day if I stop pumping at work? I've cut down from 3 sessions to 2 sessions and Monday I only did 1 session. DD seemed fine today, but wondering how long it will take me to regulate?
Also, did you notice that your LO ate more/longer as you cut out a session or two of nursing? She has been nursing at 6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm and 6:30pm and then once overnight between 1 and 4am - so 6 times in a 24 hour period. I really would like to cut out the overnight session and have her STTN!
Also, what are your thoughts on cow's milk regarding how much a nursing baby needs? For example, as she gets older if I cut down to 6am, 12pm and 6:30pm sessions (morning, nap and bedtime) do you feel she has to get a certain amount of cow's milk in? Why do they need cow's milk anyway?
Oh and when do you stop "offering" the boob and let her dictate when she wants it, I'm not ready to refuse (other than middle of the night maybe) but not sure I should still be offering? How did you do this part?
Sorry I'm totally clueless about all this! I don't have any friends that nursed beyond a year other than a single session at bedtime and the two friends that went that route didn't make it past 15/16 months doing so. Most people I know think I'm crazy for nursing this long, 12 weeks is normal around here, maybe 6 months if you are a stay at home mom.....
I'm just not ready to be done and I know DD isn't either! Glad to have other women out there who feel the same!

I'm zero help with pumping, but I know a few moms on DS's BB stopped pumping at a year. At this point the supply should regulate just fine to be there when you're together.
As far as cows milk goes, as long as baby is nursing some everyday there's no good reason to introduce it if you don't want to. Some people feel that there's no reason for cows milk period since calcium can be had from a lot of other sources too. If DS didn't like cows milk, I wouldn't push it one bit. He does like it and it makes me feel better if I have to be away from him for an extended period. A lot depends on how much real food your LO is eating as far as what you may be comfortable with. My son eats A LOT (most days ha ha).
DS baby signs 'milk' (opening and closing a fist) and recently with the introduction of cows milk has started doing a second similar sign where his fist doesn't quite open and close all the way (more fingertips touching) which means he wants a sippy of cows milk rather than nurse. So he dictates when he wants what. Mostly. It's not perfect by any means just yet since he just started this this week with this.
Hi and welcome!! Congrats on reaching a year!
