Squee! I have been following ALL of you closely! Stealing your ideas LOL! Now I want my own thread!
Little background... Dalton is 20 months and has been a boob man since evers! He has slept with us every night since he was born. We had a pack and play in the room, and starting at about a year he would do a small stretch in there first, then back in bed at 11-1 ish and stay there. When teething hit (he got em all at once!), we regressed and I swear for 2 months he did not sleep in his pack and play at all. Finally, this last month he has been sleeping better, sleeping LONGER and in his pack and play most the night. The last 2 weeks have proven a FULL night sleep for both of us, and him waking up at 4am for some more nurses.
We are on a bit of a time crunch to get him sleeping on his own because we have a concert in Denver in May. We will be gone two nights, and he has never EVER slept without Mommy and Daddy, or gone that long without nursing. I imagine that weekend will be the weekend he weans entirely... which is fine if that's what he wants!
Anyway... we had a crib for him, but he never slept in it. With our second son we put him in a toddler bed at this age, so we thought what the heck! We will try again! We converted the crib to a bed yesterday, rearranged the bedroom and got him familiar with it! Not even 20 minutes after that bed was up? He nursed and napped in there for 2 hours!
Last night was... PERFECT. OMG. He nursed to sleep, went down without any fuss and slept in his room until 4 am! He just got out of bed, walked into our bedroom and said MAMA!! BLANKIE (that's his word for nursing)!!! So we did amazing!!
YAY! I hope this works!
Wow, what a change! I love that he says blankie.
That is awesome!!! Hope it just keeps getting better. I'm also loving his use of Blankie for nursing...lol...totally cute.

Aww thanks It is awful cute. And he is ALWAYS holding his "Blankie" too, so in mixed company no one is the wiser LOL!
Last night was not as good. He was in bed at 12. I MEANT to give him a little milk, back to sleep..but I passed out LOL. I think this will be my greatest challenge! Keeping MYself awake long enough to put him back in bed.
A few good nights, a few bad nights... I have been actively putting him BACK in bed if he gets up before the 4am mark. So far, it hasn't done anything but piss him off and make me exhausted LOL! But I will keep at it...
The good news is, there have been MORE nights of him STTN then him not... so I think the trend is on the upswing for sure.
My question is: What do I do about the nursing when he gets up too early? I tried just laying him in bed with me, and not allowing him to nurse, but that was about as effective as him staying in his bed... I mean, if he wakes up NOTHING will replace his nursing time.
Up and down, up and down.
Two nights ago though... I am still laughing about this. I really don't know for sure what happened? But here was the scenario:
Hear a thud, and then a cry, and then another cry. Run into the room... Dalton is on Everits bed, Everit is on the floor writhing, they are both hysterical, and I am still asleep lol.
My educated guess is that Dalton woke up, realized his Blankie was MIA (it was tangled in some blankets on his bed) so he went to take Everits blanket (Named Snuff.) Dalton is a brute... so I think he actually pulled and tugged on Snuffy while Everit was holding onto him and eventually pulled him off the bed When I got Everit back in bed he kept saying NO SNUFFY over and over LOL. So I am pretty sure Dalton was trying to pilfer him.
I went to go get Daltons blankie, and he jumped into his own bed and fell promptly asleep. I was like, Umm.. OK! So I went back to bed.
10 minutes later he was up roaming the halls, talking about cat-cats (dinosaurs.) He went back into his bed again before I could get up.
10 minutes after that, he was back in my bed LOL...
What a night...
Oh my! What a night that must have been!
How you deal with the early wakeups are up to you. If it were me, I'd try to hold out until as close to the hour you've set as wakeup boob hour. When things were going well for us, I set 6am as wakeup boob time but if she woke up at 5:30 I wouldn't fight it. If it were 4am, I wouldn't give in.
It has to be light out before DD gets boob in the morning... but, we live in a place where the sun basically rises at the same time all year round, so it's not like we're dealing with a late winter sun. Right now, DD is not nursing from bedtime until about 6:30, and then will nurse until about 7:30. Some days I sleep through it...some days I have to switch sides after a while... and some days it means we get up earlier.
