No AF, Not Pregnant. How long for you?

Hi all.

I'm new to the "extended bfing" crowd. I breast fed my first til 8 months, but began supplementing with formula around 2 months due to running empty in the middle of the night (turns out, he has a lip tie and is having it taken care of by our dentist next month.. he's 8 years old now). My second I nursed until just a little over a year. We started offering him formula at 6 months at bed time eager to make him STTN.

Our DD is going to be 13 months on the 29th of September and is showing NO signs of slowing down the nursing. She's only had about 2.5 ounces of formula her entire life because she flat out refused it. We just went from nursing every 3-4 hours to every 5-6 hours around 11 months old... so I suspect we will be nursing for quite a while.

Now.. on to my question of AF.

I recently was diagnosed with Estrogen Depletion due to breast feeding and prescribed a vaginal estrogen cream to combat awful symptoms (bedroom type) and am showing improvement since I started it.

With both my DS's, AF returned between 8 and 9 months. Here we are at almost 13 months and still no AF. I know the estrogen depletion and very frequent nursing (for her age) are playing a part. But when can I expect it? Lol

I know you can't answer that question. I can't temp because baby is still also waking up 3-5 times each night, but based on recent cm, I feel like I may finally be gearing up to ovulate. DH had the big V back in March and was "released" from the urologist's care at the beginning of August. His first check up came back "fertile" and it took him a few weeks to actually follow up again, so he was checked about 6 weeks after and then 20 weeks. His 20 week check was all clear.

I took a dollar tree hpt last week, just to be sure. Wink Which, of course, was negative.

So.... what's YOUR personal experience with Bfing and no AF?

mine came back at 6 months. Sad I thought my DD would never stop nursing. She was nursing 5-6 times a day around a year old. About a month ago (20 months) she cut back drastically and now only nurses once a day.

Yep, you never know! Mine came back along with DS starting solids (solids at 6 months, AF at 7 months). I know I've heard others here got it back once they night weaned. There's one girl on my BB who just recently got AF back at almost 2 years! You never know what it's going to take for your body to get the hormones back in gear to cause ovulation and therefore AF. I was paranoid and just carried mama cloth on me everywhere I went in my purse. lol

AF stayed away for me until I was 14 months PP. DD will be 2 next week and still nurses 3-5 times per day. AF returning wasn't really preceded by any change in nursing. Another PG.org mama I know didn't get AF back until 21 months or so.

There's really no telling when the witch will return. Most likely it will be soon.

For me, AF came back 5 months PP after each of my breastfed kiddos- despite exclusive BFing, feeding on demand, no binkies, etc. It just varies from mom to mom but I have to admit that I'm really envious of those who go for longer periods of time without AF!

Thanks ladies.

I think I ovulated yesterday (but without temping, can't be certain until AF showes). I had fertile like CM on Sunday and Monday (not EWCM, but still could be fertile) and then yesterday evening had hard to ignore ovulation pain (just like I used to get every month when TTC). Without the EWCM, I'm still going back and forth on the pain being something else, but I'm crossing my fingers I ovulated. Also with this pain, came more buyers remorse over the Big-V DH had in the spring (and confirmed effective early Aug).

I just want things to finally even out and not need to take the Estrogen cream anymore. I decided to take a 2 week break from it and if AF doesn't show up in 2 weeks, I'll start the cream again.

I am answering totally late on this one but wanted to chime in.

I breastfed for 4+ years, nearly exclusively the entire first year and then less as he began solids, eventually it went to just night time feedings (we co-slept and i was dead to the world he just helped himself or I would have probably ended it sooner). Anyhow, I only had about 4 weeks of PP bleeding and then AF was back at 6 (which was just not fair I tell you!). I also had an IUD put in a couple weeks later though so no ttc-ing then.

Update.

No AF still. I did get a yeast infection last week and put off treating it (hoping it would balance itself out). I have only had 3 or 4 in my life time now. I am not sure if it was new underwear that fits me better (I've been wearing 2 sizes too big) or starting oral probiotics (not to prevent YI's but to help my stomach--been on antibiotics since Dec 28th). I put of treating it until I just couldn't stand it anymore, and then I bought Monistat 3 Ovule kit. Then I had a topical allergic reaction to the Ovule stuff. NICE!

Saw my doc today for my annual. Had her make sure that I have no open sores (sure looked and felt like it yesterday). She says it looks like I'm starting to heal and to leave it alone. She said that my cervix did not appear to be agitated by the pap, so she did not expect me to start spotting/bleeding from it, so I might not have ovulated like I thought.

Anyway...

Still waiting for AF and no more Monistat for me.

I didn't get my first PPP after DD until like 14 or 15 mos. My SIL, who did not feed on demand, did not co-sleep, etc, didn't get hers until after her son weaned at 15 or so months- even though he was only nursing a couple times a day, and not at all at night. Every body is different!

Well... DH thinks I'm paranoid and crazy. Lol

I'm so crazy, that I just spent $17 on amazon for test strips. I got a combo pack, though, so if I haven't ovulated I can monitor that daily or whatever I feel like it. And when AF finally arrives, then I'll have some to give away (if I don't use them all up with my craziness).

I just dislike cramping on and off for days at a time, breasts aching, citrus tasting like dentist gloves (yes, multiple types.. lemon, orange, pineapple [if that's even citrus]), smelling eggs and wanting to vomit, smelling the dog's toots 20 minutes before DH even though I'm not in the room that the dog and DH are both in....................
