Apple pie has no place at Thankgiving

http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2013/11/25/apple_pie_at_thanksgiving_wrong.htmlI was going to title this a "fluff" debate but then I remembered that pie at Thanksgiving is a pretty serious issue. :biglaugh:ITA with the author that apple pie is not deserving of the Thankgiving table for a variety of reasons and that the only pies I want (rather, NEED) to see on the Thankgiving table are pumpkin and pecan. That said, if someone shows up with apple pie, I won't turn them away, but I might give them a lecture about the subject after a few glasses of wine. Blum 3

The link did not work for me.

I am planning to make both apple pie and pecan pie tomorrow before Thanksgiving. I think I have always had apple pie for Thanksgiving.

Didn't work for me either

Pumpkin is all I care about and actually just the filling, the crust is something that simply holds it, lol!

DH doesn't like pumpkin so we will make a cobbler or crisp, probably apple Wink

I don't really care for apple pie all that much anyway. It smells wonderful, but the taste doesn't really do it for me. Pecan pie is what it's all about on Thanksgiving!!!!

Sorry about that. I fixed the link. Somehow the "l" at the of "html" got dropped off. If I can't make my own pie crust (so easy with a food processor & parchment paper!) then I get Trader Joe's pie crust, it's the only brand I've found that doesn't have lard in it.

I LOVE apple pie but I'm not making that this year. We're having pumpkin and chocolate cream pie. (I'm also making cranberry bread, apple cobbler and pumpkin mousse in case you wanted to know Smile )

I think apples aren't really seasonal but when stored well carry from October to November nicely.

We always have pumpkin and pecan... pecan being my favorite. I only eat the filling part though, as I don't like pie crust. I don't like warm cooked apples so apple pie is a big nay for me and I agree it doesn't deserve a place on the table for Thanksgiving Smile

I don't like apple pie, but I don't like pumpkin pie either.

That said, there is almost always an apple pie at my Dad's at Thanksgiving, and everyone (but Juliet and me) loves it. I make a pumpkin cheesecake as the main pumpkin dessert.

When I was a kid, my mom always made pumpkin pie and my grandmother always made the most delicious chocolate pie ever. No one can reproduce that pie.

Anyway I say YES to apple pie at Thanksgiving. Apples are a fall fruit.

I bought pumpkin, apple, and pecan pies at Marie Callander's at the end of last month. They freeze really well so I'm ready for Thursday!

Over the past few years I have learned that pecan is the pie of choice among my co-workers. Not just at Thanksgiving time, but year round.

I love apple pie! (Oh, heck...I love all pie!)

But lard is the best thing about pie crust!

I don't like sweet pies much but love savoury pies. A meat pie with lard in it is a beautiful thing. If you're going to go, go all out.

Yeah, but I'm a vegetarian so the meat pie and the lard-filled crust are not for me. I make a wonderful savory crust for a veggie potpie with olive oil, sooooooo good.....

I absolutely love Apple pie, it's one of my favorite pies and thanksgiving would definitely be incomplete without it. It's going to feel a little incomplete this year because my mom did not make the pies this year and hers are superior to anyone else's except for her mom's, who when she was alive used to make them. Apple pie definitely holds a special little place in my heart Smile

I have to say pumpkin or pecan are my favorite, but apple is a close 3rd. One of my sons likes apple pie the best, so we always have to have at least one apple pie for him.
