ballot measure LA County - condoms

This November, residents of LA County will vote on whether or not porn actors in LA County must wear condoms.

Is this an issue voters should decide?
How would you vote on it?

I don't know enough about why this measure is on the ballot.

I will initially say I don't think the voters should need to deal with this issue.
Is there an "I don't care" option on the ballot.

What is the background to this? Is a public health issue? Are porn stars spreading disease to people without discussing it? That's really a private issue and not an issue for the public.

Like the previous poster, I don't know enough about the issue. I did find this:

Porn Industry Fights Back Against L.A. County Condom Initiative

My thought is wondering if they are simply trying to drive the porn industry out of the county as I cannot imagine that those in "the business" will comply. (I was "happy" to learn that they do supposedly require twice a month STD testing.

IF the porn groups claim that the Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is spending $2million on the ballot initiative -- I would agree with their assessment that the money could likely be put to MUCH better use. Granted, I am simply guessing, but I would suspect that the % of HIV infected is not as high traced to those (legitimately) employed within the industry, as compared to those that may "view" porn but more so engage in promiscuous activity with multiple partners. I'd rather see that money put towards other means of education -- commercials, billboards, etc.

Dont they wear them already? I dont know to much about porn, but it seems to me that the industry would police themselves pretty hard to protect themselves.
I also dont see that this would be a huge deterrent, LA county has tons of areas around it they could move to and then lose the tax money.

I just don't see what your regular voting public has to do with this issue....I shouldn't vote on issues that regulate other people's industries. Seems like a great distraction from real issues, though, if that's what they're after. Seriously.

The mayor signed a law covering the city of LA. This will expand it to the entire county.

I still don't understand the point of this? It's like going into a business and telling them what type of desk chairs to buy or what computers to use. It's impact doesn't change anything to the public (like pollution and things do) so why is this something important to them?

No they don't want to wear them on camera, I guess it would ruin the shot. I think Missy is right this is all about finding a way to ban porn in a roundabout way because if this goes through than they will move somewhere else rather than wear condoms. It has nothing to do with actually wanting to protect the actors by making them wear condoms. I don't know why they just don't come right out and ban porn instead of playing this political game.
