Default Ban on Ice Cream Trucks?

Parents Banning Ice Cream Trucks in Neighborhood Park

There is a current trend to try to move kids to healthier snack options such as restrictions in school/daycare lunches and vending machines... or the recent push to get McD's to be forced to remove toys from Happy Meals. Do you believe that a "next step" could be a ban on Ice Cream trucks patrolling the neighborhoods/parks where some parents feel they are "preying" on kids?

I agree with the article. Those ice cream trucks aren't preying on kids, they're preying on parents who are too spineless to say no. Armchair lazy parenting, IMO. Grow a set and say no. Don't ruin a nice treat for some other kids.

Ridiculous! If you don't want your kids to have ice cream, don't give them the money to go to the truck. You can't insulate yourself from every temptation.

Crazy! Our neighborhood has a community pool. The ice cream truck comes twice a day during the summer. As a parent, I can say no to my children if I do not want to purchase ice cream that day!

I also know exactly what time the ice cream truck comes, so if I really wanted to, I could go to the pool after the first visit and leave before the second visit. I have found that the truck takes the same route daily so comes at the same times (give or take a few minutes!)

I love hearing the ice cream truck around the neighborhood. Parents should be able to say no, if not - that is their problem. They shouldn't ban them just because some parents don't know how to parent.

If you can't say "no" when your kid asks for ice cream you've got a real problem... And it isn't the ice cream truck.

Ridiculous. Leave the poor ice cream truck man alone and let him make his living. If you have a problem with ice cream, DON'T BUY IT.

Freaks. Ours runs almost year long and goes by at least once an hour at the beach. Silly me telling my kid no instead of trying to get it banned and ruin it for other parents/ kids who may enjoy the tradition......
