Default Banning smoking in cars carrying minors

Banned! Smoking in cars carrying children to be a criminal offence within a year after MPs overwhelmingly back new law | Mail Online

Do you agree or disagree? I'm not sure if this law is in place in the US.

Personally, I can't believe people do it! I remember being parked up at my local supermarket and the car next to me, all the windows were closed. There were three kids in the back and the guy up front was smoking. Like I said, the window was shut - I was in shock.

I think it's about time they made it against the law.

I believe it is already a law here. And a good one.

    Same here.

"As of 2008, it is an infraction punishable by a fine not exceeding $100 for a person to smoke a pipe, cigar, or cigarette in a vehicle when a minor is present. However, you can't be pulled over just for smoking; there has to be another reason. But it will add money to whatever ticket you get."

As much as I think that it is abhorrent, I hate laws like this.

Mandating good or bad behavior based on societies current morals is what I have an issue with. It wasn't that long ago that smoking around kids was a norm, not a shunning behavior.

I think the issue here is smoking in a closed car with children, who are not smoking, who don't have a choice....and forcing them to inhale the smoke. It's a health issue, not a moral issue, and it's about protecting minors from physical danger.

Huge difference between that and a moral issue, which can be nebulous.

Yes!! Smoking in cars with minors in it should definitely be illegal.

It's totally a health concern. These poor kids have no say as to whether they get in the car or not. Shunning to me is not always wrong.

Perhaps you don't realize how bad SHS is, so I pulled up a link you can read about it:
