No I don't see it as a problem for everyone. I don't think everyone should have to compensate because some people are overweight.

TWO THIRDS OF THE PEOPLE IN OUR NATION ARE OVERWEIGHT One third is obese.

That is not 'some'. Sorry for the caps but that is like the third time in this thread that you have tried to minimalize the issue.

And seriously Gloria, compensate? What are you actually sacrificing?

There is a regulation on what size cough syrup you can buy? Or the size of a bag of fertilizer?

And you are still FREE to go back and get all the soda you want if you are passionate about overconsuming soda.

Over the course of this thread i think i've decided what i think.

I think its lame that you want to protect a cup size under the name of freedom when this could potentially drive down the amount of soda our nation consumes...a sick, overweight nation so you don't have to go get soda twice.

Here there are lots of things that you can only buy in limited quantities-- the first that come to mind is Sudafed, spray paint, baby formula-- some are restricted by law, others are restricted by store policies.

Absolutely on fertilizer-- there is some type that can be used to make bombs. Same with some beauty products-- I know those are limited at supply stores bc people (terrorists) might use them to make bombs...

As far as your "freedom"-- nobody is suggesting that you can't buy and drink all the soda that you want. Or making it a law that you have to maintain a healthy weight. This is simply a strategy to try to curb the insane obesity rate that is killing our country, costing us billions and threatening our national security. I think it is a cause worth fighting for. No single strategy will solve the problem completely, but a multi-pronged approach MAY help save some lives.

I just can't see the downside-- other than cups that were already manufactured and might expire before they are sold, even though this law only went into effect in one city in the whole dang country.

Sure. Have you seen any gallon jugs of cough syrup around? It is to prevent overdose.

Fertilizer purchases are closely regulated. Plus all the other things myself and others have listed for you.

Yes, there is. In our state you have to show your ID and record in their log how much cough syrup you are getting if it has the right ingredients. You also have to be 18.

I see the point that point sides are trying to make. You all have done a great job at making me think the ban is not that big of a deal, although I do not think it will make that big of a difference.

I am working hard with my doctor to come to a healthy weight. I am eating a very healthy diet (with no soda at all) in effort to loose weight. I just think that is were it should be. Between me and my doctor. I do not want the govt or anyone else to discriminate me because of my weight. I also think it seems a little off that many people want some choices to stay strictly between them and their doctor while others should be regulated by the government.
