Just wanted to say that Black Friday would be my own personal hell, no matter what day/time Walmart or whatever stores open. "Black Friday". Sounds like a stock market crash or something. Lots of people up here drive down for Black Friday shopping, but I doubt they will take advantage of Thursday "Black Friday" shopping since Thursday is not our holiday.l
I think there are plenty of people who want to work the overtime hours AND get away from their families. Thanksgiving is a much bigger holiday here in the U.S. than in Canada, and when I first moved here, most of the people I met DREADED Thanksgiving and would have been thrilled to have an excuse to avoid going home for it. Hopefully there are enough of the people who do and don't want to work that it mostly evens out.
I wouldn't last 5 minutes on Black Friday, lol! not for me. ( I do however shop the morning after christmas....very early I run to Target and snag up a bunch of stuff for the next year)
I wouldn't boycott because I don't think it is truly an issue. I agree with other posts that most of these stores were probably not even going to be closed (meaning no employees working, stocking, etc.) It is what comes with a job in retail. I worked several holidays when I was waiting tables and people were no more pleasant, and actually not very 'giving', anymore on those days. I made it home for leftovers or we celebrated seperately at a different time.
Which would be a separate question now wouldn't it?
She did state she hates that any store is open though, not just Walmart.
I dislike any store that is opening ridiculously early and on Thursday. I especially hate Walmart in general :)
Laws here prohibit stores from being open on Thursday. While i guess i could be convinced that a law like that shouldn't exist, i will admit I like it!
Add me to the list of Walmart haters. I will unashamedly use them as the icon of our cheap, materialistic society and they have enough power and clout to influence others...so yep. I put them as the lowest of low.
