I have been to Walmart more times in the past 3 days than I ever have. It's awfully depressing. BUT, in the 20.5 years I have been living here, I finally received good customer service. I told the manager how helpful and pleasant the gentleman was. She couldn't have cared less (SURPRISE!).
Depending on when and where you go, it isn't that bad. Two years I got an amazing deal at Sam's Club but the store was nearly empty at the time. The deal I am after this year is at Walmart at 8 AM Friday. It will be well worth waiting in line for an hour or 2, but anything longer than that and I'll wait.
As for opening on Thursday and employees having to work, it doesn't bother me so much. Many companies hire seasonal workers; those workers accepted employment knowing that they may have to work a lot of hours over the holiday season.
In CA, they are required to pay overtime after 8 hours in a day and over 40 hours in a week. Depending on the circumstances, employees can make a lot of extra money!
Walmart is open 24 hours so they have employees that have to work whether they are having Black Friday specials or not. One of my co-worker's husband is a manager at a Black Eyed Pea and she said he will be working all day because that is one of their biggest days of the year because a lot of people that don't want to make Thanksgiving dinner go there for turkey.
