But that is subjective. That is YOUR comfort level and your dh's comfort level.

It shouldn't be because you have a problem with it that no one can do it.

Well I'm pretty sure that if a gay scoutmaster took 16 year old boys camping and something happened it would be the Boy Scouts who would be sued for allowing it to happen.

Well, we all know that no gay man is capable of not trying to seduce any 16-year-old boys who come his way.

Thats not really the point. So would you be comfortable sending your 16 year old daughter camping with a straight man?

If she were with a fair-sized group and we'd talked about it, and I knew him, I would have no issue with it. A total stranger and she's by herself? Different story. And I'd have no problem sending my 16-year-old boy out with his troop with a gay male scout leader, although I'd be wondering why he's still in the scouts at 16.

Then again, I know a lot of straight men who aren't rapists and molesters. I also know a lot of gay men who aren't. The problem is rapists and molesters, not sexual orientation.

While I agree with everyone else that you dont have to be homosexual to molest little boys, I dont think this matters for this debate. What matters IS how they identify themselves, cause how else are you 'excluding' them, if not by their own self identification? When you exclude a group like this, you are only excluding the ones who stand up and say 'I am gay'. Who knows how many homosexual men and boys are actually taking part in boy scouts who just havent identified themselves as such.

Lets say (purely for argument) that Gloria is right. Only homosexual men molest boys. Then if you are a homosexual who preys on boys, wouldnt you just lie to get into the scouts so you could be around them? I just dont see how this ban would keep these men out.....in fact, boys have been molested in boy scouts, so wouldnt that imply that the ban does not keep these people out, it just hides them inside the organization.

Again, before I get jumped on for this argument, I actually thing that molestation has nothing to do with sex, but is about power, and therefore has nothing to do with sexual orientation.

IMO no child should be 'alone' with any leader. I would be concerned if a group of kids was going with one leader, and I would be concerned if it was just my child with the leader. But a big group of kids with 2-3 leaders and chaperones, one of whom is male, or gay or whatever.....nope, dont have an issue.

Exactly what Laurie said. I stayed at a friends house many times when her mom wasn't home and wasn't expected home. I was never raped or molested by her stepdad. Happened at many friend's houses..I knew them, my parents knew them it was all good.

Although, they do have Eagle scouts to a certain age..my cousin was 16 or 17 when he won some award (I forget what it is) for his commitment to the Scouts.

In my opinion, whether or not to have homosexual leaders in boy scouts has nothing to do with the possibility of abuse. Any time you leave a child alone with someone else you are risking that possibility. It happens in school, churches, neighbours, families, and other groups such as scouts. It is a terrible tragedy, but it is your responsibility as parents to make sure you know and trust any one you are leaving your child alone with.

According to their website there are 287,857 boys in scouts in the 14-18 age range.
