Childfree wedding (Clairsmommy) NAD

So, my cousin is getting married in Calgary at Pinebrook country club in August. Kids are not invited, and I am OK with that, though I really wish they could have had it in a hotel so I could leave my kids in the room with a sitter. I cant find a hotel nearby, and am thinking that I am going to have to miss it, as I dont feel comfortable leaving my kids across the city with a stranger in a hotel for the evening.

Can anyone else think of an alternative solution for me? I mention Clairsmommy in the title cause you live in Calgary right? Know any good hotels in the area that I am missing with a google search? There seems to be NOTHING around that area.

That golf course is in a beautiful but residential/rural location and there are practically NO hotels nearby. The closest one I can think of that's new and has nice rooms is the Deerfoot Inn & Casino. It is on the corner of Glenmore Trail and 37th Street SW, so only a few minutes' drive from the country club. Calgary Hotel Room Reservations - Calgary SW Hotels |? Deerfoot Inn & Casino Other than that one, your best bet would be downtown for nice hotels but they are very expensive. HTH!

It has a nice view of the mountains, if you're not hanging out in the casino Wink

We have not been evacuated and likely will not be. We are on high ground away from the river valleys. However, we have relatives who are being evacuated as I speak and will likely head to our house today. The major concern where I live is the stormwater drainage ponds which are about to overflow into the communities. Any community along the Elbow River or Bow River has been evacuated - about 20 so far - and the worst is yet to come. The water is expected to spill over the top of the major dam in the city and that water will spill directly in the downtown area. EMS is removing people from their homes downtown by boat on what are normally city streets. People are leaving in a mass exodus from the core by foot, as every major route is closed to anything other than foot traffic. The major thoroughfares are also closed and basically the city is shut down. The town of High River just south of Calgary has evacuated all 13,000 residents and is completely under water now. Approximately 100,000 Calgary residents have been evacuated with likely another 100,000 more to come as the water levels continue to rise. The town of Canmore is completely devastated - houses are literally floating down the river that was once a tiny creek. The police and city are attempting to build berms to hold back the water, and the zoo is in real jeopardy as it is on the river. They have moved as many animals out as possible. Many of our employees are trapped in Banff as the highways are closed due to landslides.

But hey, I'm at work! Woo hoo!!!!! Party on. Thanks for your well wishes and I'll keep y'all posted. If our stormwater pond is breached then we'll be getting out too, but that's unlikely. Smile Please keep the residents of southern Alberta in your thoughts. Things are the worst I have ever seen or experienced.

I can't believe you are at work! Even hospitals and clinics are closed!

Stay safe, and I am thinking of Southern Alberta. Have you heard from ftmom?

No haven't heard from her but I am not sure of her proximity in BC. We are having more evacuees tonight. Helicopters flying over homes on megaphones telling the residents to leave. Low lying Calgary is completely devastated. So tragic and totally jaw dropping. Worst in decades. No wifi on laptops, iPhone is still good to go. Don't know where some relatives are tonight who were evacuated but hoping they are okay.

I am much farther North, and well out of the danger zone. I have a number of relatives in Calgary and south, as well as a number of friends as we used to live there, but so far everyone I know is.....not well, but still standing I guess.

Glad you guys are doing OK. I have been thinking of everyone these last few days.

Glad to hear you guys are OK, and hoping all of all your friends & family are, too!

To the OP, if there were no hotels nearby, I'd probably ask the country club if there might be a room available to rent for the kids. There are probably other parents in the same situation. You might be able to all pitch in for a couple of sitters and room rental.
