Costumes - FLUFF :)
I was reading this article:
How Much Did You Spend on Halloween Costumes This Year? | Team Mom - Yahoo! Shine
And I was surprised at what people pay! Do you have a price cap you put on costumes/accessories? Do you make your own, or just buy pre-made?
A good friend with no children sent the girls costumes this year. When Alyssa was a baby we had much less money than we do now and I could not afford to buy her a costume so I made her a bunny rabbit costume. Other years I have either bought a costume for $10, made a costume, or my friend has sent a costume. After Halloween last year I bought 3 sets of bunny ears and tails. Because by friend sent costumes, we will save those for another year. My younger two also wear costumes that are passed down for her sisters. I am not willing to spend a lot of money on something that is only worn once a year.
That's exactly what I think!!! We don't have any little cousins or family friends to pass them on to. I've always said 20 or less per kid. We used to only make them, then I got busy and I started buying. This year I went back to making them, because it's fun!!

I usually buy used but this year Jason wanted to be Jake from Disney's new show so my mom bought a $20 costume for him and I bought the $12 sword that is a toy. The baby's costume was $12. next year I'm going to try to make them. I want them to be Yogi and Boo boo.
We have a store here that takes the overstock from other stores and some of the costumes were only .50!!! I bought 4 or 5 for my Godbabies and one for a friends kid for less than $10.
eta-My sister bought a Rapunzel online for $60 and she's a witch today because they didn't send the right size. So my sister is going to keep it for her dress up box. Drives me batcrap insane when she tells me things like that.
I wish i was crafty enough or resourceful enough to make home made costumes that were on the cheap side. I'm not!

My husband has actually made a few costumes for the kids in the past. But when we add up the materials to do that, it really didn't come out to be too much less.
I hit the stores after Halloween when the costumes are 75% off or more. Target goes down to 90% off. I can usually get at least 2 or 3 costumes per child for about $10-$15 (The nicer costumes too). I put them up until next year and then let them decide which one they like. Sometimes they will even get to wear more than one if they go to a Halloween party or Trunk or treat or something they can wear a different one for that. Plus they just have fun putting on the costumes and playing around the house.
This year I bought DD's costume for $17 dollars, which is more than I wanted to pay, but the cheaper witch costumes looked so....cheap :) I got DS's off a facebook group for free. Last year my mom managed to snag a bunch of Disney costumes for $5 each so she sent us those and we didnt have to pay anything. I try to buy for the next year when things go on sale, but it gets so picked over by the time I get to them. On the plus side, after halloween we put the costumes into the dress up drawer and they use them all year round for dress up, so at least we get some wear out of them.
Oh, and the baby gets to wear an orange and white stripped sleeper.....same one his sister wore her first halloween, and next year he gets to be a robot, just like his brother was a few years ago, and so it will go until he is old enough to make his own choice and fight me on mine :)
It varies. I cap at about 20.00 but I don't think I spend that much.
This year my youngest is going as a cat and my friend gave me the costume.
Oldest isgoing as Zoe from Sesame (minus the hair so she's really a ballerina lol) and I spent 6.99 on the tutu, we had the leotard from my niece and 4.00 for the tights.
Ya I probably couldn't do that if I lived in a rural area. Being in the Dallas area I have multiple places to choose from so I can go to a store that has more leftovers.

I spent $5 on DD's witch wig and $13 on DS's coat. :)
