I think it is reasonable that the signs be allowed if the manger scene is allowed, and it was wrong to vandalize the signs. If they did something vulgar like posted their own manger scene only Mary was naked, or Joseph was beheaded, then no, I do not think that should be allowed.

I really don't want to go down the rabbit hole of the historical proof of the bible with you, so I will just say that the definition says "with or without a determinable basis in fact." Meaning that either one qualifies under the same definition.
I think the point of the sign is that we tend to think of other people's beliefs as "merely" myths and fables, but in fact, if you look at what myths and fables really are, most people's beliefs qualify. I think it's an intriguing thought, personally.
Whether or not someone believes every single part of the bible, Jesus was a real man. There is as much evidence of this as there is of George Washington or any other man of history.
You can't say that Budda is ok because he has cultural significance but Jesus is not ok. That is no different than saying the manger scenes are ok, but the Atheist posters are not.

I guess the Atheists can stand there live with their signs now if they are so intent on getting their message out. I wonder how that will go over?
