    Default Duggars~ Take XX

I Know that this has been done a lot on here, but don't care.

The lovely and hyperbreeding mrs. Duggar has announced that she is carrying their 20th child (or 21st, I suppose, as they had a loss).

I see wildly hateful posts on FB and elsewhere in social media, yet see other posts defending her right to choose to HAVE life as being just as valid as someone choosing to abort life.

Let's face it: most things we indulge in are normal, unless done to excess. One drink is fine: 20 makes you a person with a drinking problem. Have any of you seen the hoarding TV shows? I've wondered if both JB & M are "hoarders" (except they hoard progeny, not clutter).

I've also wondered if Michelle is addicted to pregnancy and the attention it brings her. It almost seems to be a type of Munchausen's syndrome (but with pregnancy: not illness).

IMO, JB wants so many children for 3 reasons: $, ego, and insecurity (i.e., bringing up Michelle's "baggage").
Specifically I'd like to talk about this comment I saw in the comment section of an article about #20.

Do you think that the Duggars share any commonalities with the analogy to an alcoholic or a horder (aka an addict)? Is there validity to this idea in your mind?

Do you think that addiction to pregnancy attention (or, fame which supplies a lot of their income, in this case) could be considered a form of Munchausen's?

Also. Do you feel differently about them continuing to have children after the debacle of her last pregnancy (micropreemie) and the other health issues she has publicly faced due to this egregious display of breeding?

    Discuss.

I don't spend much (OK any)time thinking about the Duggards and compounded with the fact that it is way too early in the morning, my opinion is not wellthought out and simply my initial reaction.

I think they are extremists, self indulgent to the point of abnormally being so, addicted to attention, and so caught up in the point that they CAN have children and not thinking about whether they SHOULD. The fact that they parade their family in front of tv cameras to me proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have alterior motives for their rabbit like copulation. And I can't imagine any sane person purposly making the decision to have a 20th child after having the 19th go through such a horrible ordeal.

All that said, I don't think it is up to anyone to tell them they can't have more children.

I've watched the show and think they really believe that God is going to decide how many kids they have without birth control. I think that she's had 18 healthy children and one that is working on healthy and they are all turning out very good. I do not think they are looking for attention or are hoarders. I think if anyone told a woman that had the same issues and one child that she couldn't have another people would be all up in arms the other direction. Her gallbladder was the cause of Josie's issues and now it's not.

Lillie, I don't mean this with snark, so please just take it at face value....but how can you rationalize the statement "I do not think they are looking for attention" with the TV show, the TV specials, the spinoff shows, the PUBLIC announcements of more babies in front of their existing children etc, etc, etc?

True, but if someone told a person on television who had a whole show just focused on having children, I wouldn't get all up in arms in people telling them they shouldn't have one. The minute they got in front of the camera is the minute I stop believing that anyone's decision in pure and innocent. Just because they profess to be G-dly doesn't mean they are.

Do they talk about their religion on the show much?

I don't think its the same as alcoholism or hoarding.....because the amount of children they have had has not prevented them from functioning as a family. Actually they seem to be functioning very well, even if I don't agree with all of their beliefs or practices.

Perhaps its more like an addiction to thrill seeking behavior, in that its risky and may have serious physical consequences, but the rush is rewarding?

In reality, i think its simply their extreme religious beliefs, and thats the cause of it and it just make it *look* like hoarding or whatever else.

As far as attention, its obvious that they like the attention, but even if they personally didn't like the attention, i think they would still have the same amount of kids....and they would have been doing it on their own without the tv show money, like they were from number 17 and prior.

Until there is obvious signs that those kids are in very serious danger, being abused or are not thriving, i don't really care what they do.

You know Kim I would like to think they were just G-dly people who believe that the good Lord is in control. But I can't get past the alterior motives of being on a show and how that to me seems very opposed to a religious and G-dly life of simplicity and service and following the Good Book. Just because they use religion as the reason behind what they do, still makes them no different then Kate plus 8 or the Octomom or any of the other reality shows that to me feels so much like profiting off ones children, in my eyes.

I have nothing against large families. I do have something against families on reality tv. And to me, just because you say G-d and read a Bible doesn't give you a free pass in my eyes. I could be wrong and their decisions and purpose could have nothing to do with media. But it's hard to try an convince me of that when at the same time you are doing public announcments and getting paid to do a tv show because of your family decisions.

I do think they are on the show to let people see how their lives are for the right reasons. I think they want to share what is (and was before the show) working for them. How their children react to the discipline methods they use, how they work together as a family to make their large family work, and how to remember who is really in charge. I've never seen anything like the love that oozes out of those kids and their parents. It's amazing and honestly makes me a little jealous. I have a lot of issues I work through and it's nice to see how they take some of the things out of their lives that make a lot of issues for the rest of us. I think they wanted to show the world how a large family can be functional and raise kids who are well-adjusted. That's just my impression from the show and their website though. They are very willing to share anything that they use to make their life work.

eta-from what I understand the only reason they were even thought of for the show was a producer saw a picture of the family from when JB was running for something political

    I agree.

Another thing that makes me wonder, regarding their production of offspring, is she has said that she weans her babies at 6 months. I know every woman is different, but just makes me curious if she were to continue to breastfeed a baby who still requires it, would that put the spacing of her children at a more 'natural' pace. Just a thought that has crossed my mind.

Probably, I have a tinge of jealousy too that she can handle pregnancy so easily.
