What if they admitted to it, or had intel on the inside that overheard them planning it?

I'm wondering if you ever draw the line, knowing what the law is. The law draws the line. So do you just completely disagree with the law?

"only speech that has the intent and the likelihood of inciting imminent violence or lawbreaking can be limited."

Copied from the original article on the Free Speech thread.

I do not believe the maker of this film believed that things would play out the way they did. I have read several reports that he has had to go into hiding. I would be very surprised if he thought his video would get world wide attention or cause anyone to blow up a US Embassy because of it. Yes, the video was disrespectful. Yes, it was stupid to e-mail it out to various media outlets. No, it was not his fault that some terrorists blew up a US Embassy. It is no one's fault other than the person who did it.

Sure if they had a smoking gun like a tape of them saying that they were trying to cause a riot. I really don't think that is going to happen though when they have a hard time even figuring out who made the movie, and it sounds like the one's who distributed it weren't even the same as the one's who made it.

I don't think it's going to happen in this circumstance either. Again, I was just trying to get at whether you even think the law should be applicable.

If I felt they were breaking the law, then yes they should be applicable. I do not, however, think that they broke any free speech laws. I think it is a very dangerous precedent to say that if it is going to offend other countries, than you can't say it.
