Default Father/Daughter charged with sex crime for Incest

Should it be illegal for a father/daughter of consenting age to have sex?

A 46-year-old Connecticut man and his 23-year-old daughter have been arrested on incest allegations after police say DNA tests showed he was the father of both the woman and her baby.

An arrest warrant affidavit says George Sayers and Tiffany Hartford, of Bethel, were charged Monday with third-degree sexual assault. The warrant calls Hartford an aspiring porn star.

The investigation began with a complaint by Hartford's former girlfriend.

Police say the ex-girlfriend was upset that Sayers didn't get her permission before selling photos and videos of her and Hartford having sex. Sayers and Hartford also were charged with obscenity and conspiracy.

Sayers and Hartford pleaded not guilty and are in jail. It's not clear if Sayers has a lawyer. A message was left Thursday for Hartford's public defender.

I know it is not really funny, but a ton of red neck jokes came to mind when I read this.

It shouldn't have to be illegal, it should just be... ewwwww! for everyone.

Yes, it should be illegal. It would be impossible to prove that parents were not grooming their underage children for "consentual" sex. If there was a situation, where, say a child was adopted out and found and subsequently fell in love with their birth parent as an actual of age adult and wanted to marry them I wouldn't care but would want legislation passed mandating mandatory sterilization on both parties part ~ the genetic damage to an unwilling minor (their child) would be too high to be considered "fair" to be legal, in my mind.

Shouldn't be illegal. Even if it's disgusting they are adults. AS LONG AS NOTHING HAPPENED AT ALL WHILE A MINOR!

As far as mandatory sterilization?? NO. Please keep the government out of restricting anyone's reproductive rights.

Even if it's totally disgusting, nasty and creepy, the government should stay out of it.

Yeah, I don't think I can get behind manditory sterilization. That opens up a whole can of worms about genetic testing and reproductive rights. I think I read somewhere that women over 40 have a higher liklihood of having a baby with genetic issues than, for example, 2 first cousins who have a baby (who knows why or where I would have read something like that....) Should we sterilize women over a certain age? Or, someone who we know has a genetic anomaly that may be passed on to their children (either because they have the disease themselves, or because they already have a child with the disease) - should we sterilize them? I just don't think that's a path I want to go down.

Otherwise, I agree with Melissa. It should be illegal because of the risk and likelihood that the adult "grooms" the child relative to be a potential "mate" while they are still a minor, and we need to protect kids against that.

If there were some situation where this was absolutely certain to not happen (again, maybe the child doesn't meet the parent until they are adults) then I guess that should be legal, but still gross.

You are just willing to trust big daddy not to groom his pretty little daughter before she is 18? I'm not.

As to mandatory sterilization there is no WAY I would ever support any sort of legislation legalizing any sort of father/daughter incest for a marriage license without it. Look at the rates: Studies suggest that 20-36% of these children will die or have major disability due to the inbreeding.[13] A study of 29 offspring resulting from brother-sister or father-daughter incest found that 20 had congenital abnormalities, including four directly attributable to autosomal recessive alleles.[91

So you guys may be okay with children being created with a 1/3 chance of death upon birth or a MAJOR disability......but I find those odds unpalatable
and egregiously unfair to the unborn child.

The Government already restricts the reproductive rights of these people ~ its made their union illegal.
I'm giving them MORE leeway by giving a small percentage of them a way to have a legal relationship,
without having the collateral damage to the innocent in the equation: the unborn offspring.

I suppose it could be managed a different way (like tay sach's testing is).......and here is where
my bias comes in, because I suppose I have an inherent bias assuming that these people are
probably uneducated or poor decision makers or something. Maybe that isn't entirely fair of me
....but I think as the replies show we all have a strong "ick" reaction.

The only thing more icky to me than the incest is the idea that someone wants to make it
legal. I can't imagine growing up in a household where the day I turned 18 daddy could legally
do me. I'd rather have Govmt up in our reproductive rights than Daddy up in his daughters
bedroom grooming her for her big birthday.

I do not support mandatory sterilization.

I have a hard time with laws against this in principle but think they do some good. Especially in situations of someone who was an adult when the other person was a child. Parent/child or uncle/aunt and niece/nephew. Because as Melissa said it lends itself to grooming a minor and that's not right.

You guys are right. It should not be mandatory. If you want to marry your father under specific conditions which I have outlined (and which may theoretically become more common with embryo adoption and whatnot- lets call it voluntary sterilization. Otherwise it should be 100% illegal.
