Fingernails -- total fluff

How often do you have a manicure (either salon or DIY?) or -- outside of cleanliness -- is focusing time/attention on your nails mostly an afterthought?

I grow my nails long, so there is not much care involved.

I keep my nails short. I get a pedicure every two weeks and a manicure maybe once a month in the winter and every two weeks in the summer. I don't like nail polish on my fingernails unless I have a special occasion and I never paint my own. I pretty much always have nailpolish on my toes. For me its purely for relaxation and I like the way they look in yoga in the winter and they are always out in the open in summer so its a necessity :). I always request extra soak time, extra hot water, and love the massage part of a pedicure. I often go with girlfriends and there is frequently wine involved.

Its an afterthought for me. Its just not at the top of my list of things that concern me to deal with it regularly.

...Also i really hate the way any type of polish feels on my fingers, so i can't even imagine having them done all the time.

and another also....getting my nails done at a salon kind of grosses me out....unless i know the place really well. I will get pedicures once in a blue moon (read like once a year, maybe twice) and again, I want to do it at a place I know well.

ETA: I do paint my own toes during the summer. I don't like wearing sandals and flip flops without painted toes

I have never had my nails done at a salon. Doing my own kind of runs in cycles. Sometimes I will be in the mood and go months keeping them painted, and then go six months without doing anything other than trimming them when one breaks to keep them even.

I love, love, love getting a mani/pedi. Whenever I do my nails I end up screwing them up, and they never look that good. That being said - I typically just get a pedicure in the warmer months when I'll wear sandals.

I refuse to pay for manicures....the polish stays on for about 5 seconds. I don't know if it's my nails or what??? Pedicures, on the other hand....HEAVENLY. And now that my oldest daughter is old enough to start to enjoy them as well, she begs me to go so we can go every few months for a mommy daughter day. I'm still too cheap to do it too often, so we maybe go every 3-4 months. But on my toes the polish seems to last forever, thankfully.

It's an afterthought, mostly.

I got a manicure once, when someone gave me a gift certificate, and I was bored and uncomfortable. But many years ago I had a friend offer to paint my nails and that was fun.

I do my toes because I go to yoga regularly and I don't like my feet, so the bright red polish makes me like them more. I love the way nail polish looks on my hands, and I sort of like applying it, but I am too impatient waiting for it to dry and I do too many things with my hands to wait, so I don't do it often. Also once it chips it drives me nuts.

Now that my five-year-old is into it, I buy the kid stuff and do her nails sometimes. That is fun.

But yeah, I take proper care of my toenails regularly, and my fingernails grow until I want to trim them and then I bite them down to a good level. Gross, I know.

(I am not so into these things....I'm the only woman I know who doesn't get her eyebrows done. Honestly, I just don't care!)

If I could afford it, I would get regular pedicures, but I mostly only get it done for a special occasion.

Now you know another one.

However this past fall, i had the first urge ever to get them done. I did a little plucking at home and decided i like it but guess what...i couldn't be bothered to keep it up.

I might actually make the effort to try again though. I did like the end results.

Yeah I like the way it looks too, and I wonder if people think I look weird. But I don't have weird eyebrows, just not perfect clean ones. And it HURTS.

I don't do mine either. I have done it a few times when I was younger, but didn't look that much different so I gave up. My eyebrows are pretty light though, I have to use a pencil to darken them or you can't hardly see them.

Never had a pedicure or manicure done. I do paint my own nails at times but it's hard to keep up with and chips so easily. I can't justify the cost of going for regular mani's or pedi's and also have no one to watch DS if I did anyway. It's also why my hair gets cut maybe once every two years and I stopped getting my legs and eyebrows professionally waxed, I do my own waxing now.

I'm obsessed with neat eyebrows. I get mine waxed every 3 months and then pluck in between.

I was going for pedis all the time. At least once a month in the summer, but then I developed not one but two awful plantar warts and I am too self conscious to go right now. I probably picked up the warts in the pool locker room. Anyway, they've been extremely stubborn so I'm seeing a podiatrist to get rid of them with what she lovingly refers to as 'rocket fuel'. Until they're gone, I refuse to have a pedi. I don't get manis often. My fingernails are unfortunately very thin and weak and there's nothing I can do about it. I just keep them trimmed pretty short and keep my cuticles trimmed and use lots of cream.

I am also maniacal about groomed brows. I must wax, and pluck any strays between waxings.

I'm also having my hair trimmed more often because I just cut over 10 inches off in December.

I grown my nails a bit long. The only care involved is clipping them when they get rough or too long. Every once in a while I sit and use the fancy files and buffers, but not often.

DD on the other hand loves having her nails done, so we will do that together. But that is about girl time, not my nails.

I'm another one. I am lucky that I'm blond so most of the stray hairs aren't noticeable. I will pluck the ones that you can see or are odd but other than that no. I would never pay someone to do it for me!

You are lucky. I have almost black hair and most of the other dark brunettes here will say the same probably - brow regrowth is VERY noticeable! Curse you, gypsy blood.

You can also pick up plantar warts by getting pedicures!

I practically never get professional mani/pedis. It just isn't a priority for me and I'm a little bit paranoid about cleanliness anyway. I always worry that things aren't sterile and I'm going to end up with some funky rash or infection. That just isn't enjoyable.

I have TWO gift certificates to get a spa manicure, one from last xmas and one from this xmas that just passed. They are for a nice place too. I just never think about making an appt. I also have a gift card for a facial from last year on my bday.

I keep my nails short. They are pretty healthy so always grow fast and when they get long it kind of drives me crazy. I am also lucky that the tips of my nails are pretty white so I have actually had people think they were french manicured, lol.

I will use those gift certificates one day!

Well, I guess it's home pedis for me from now on. Wink That never occured to me, actually. I just spend so much time at the pool and in the locker room I just figured it was from the pool deck, showers, or change room. Blek.
