I'm not a big user of paper cards. I prefer the immediacy of email as well as not liking the idea of mailing something that's temporary and then becomes garbage. My grandmother still sends cards to all of us for every birthday and holiday.
I mail sympathy/condolence cards, though, and occasionally a thank you card.
But I agree that it's not a bad shift, it's just where things are now. I actually prefer receiving email to a handwritten card too.
