In our neck of the woods, piano lessons range frm $10/lesson to $45/lesson approximately.
I teach piano and charge $15/lesson (30 minutes). I don't offer RCT lessons or exam preparation though, so that's why I am on the lower end of the scale.
It is a very wide range of price depending on your area.
And I also believe a child who wants to excel needs a proper piano teacher. I was trained to ignore the 'practice makes perfect' trope. Since it's not true. *Perfect* practice makes perfect. What I mean by that is, bad habits are easy to get stuck and hard to retrain after a certain point. It's better to be implementing all the components of proper musical training from the start, if someone is interested in advancing.
When I first started in piano at age 8 I remember my mom paying $15 for 1/2 an hour! My teacher was ARCT/Suzuki and some other method. Probably why she charged so much back in 1980. I was RCT all the way through.
