Funny story about Sears. I knew they had that program and looked it up online to see exactly how it worked... And I see that they stopped the program. Oh well, I bought him some jeans on sale at Childrens Place instead.
The next day my DH comes home telling me he heard an ad on the radio about program. So, I go to prove it is discontinued and sure enough, they still do it.
Apparently the first site I pulled up was American. Dang. Next time.
TCP often has some really amazing deals. I like their socks for DS because he has little feet and ankles, but meaty calves. They always stay up without digging in. And, they have cute boy jeans too. Sometimes the girl stuff I find a bit garish - too bright etc, too knockoff-ish.
Grandma gave us some money to buy Ben a new Gap hoodie because, well, he's adorable in a Gap hoodie, so that's the only thing I've bought new for him since he was born. Everything else has been handed down by his twin cousins. Score!![]()
Sears Canada and Sears in the US are totally different companies.
I am thinking that I might start a tradition with DD that she gets one new outfit for the first day of school, but that is it. Other than that I try to use hand me downs as much as possible and shop clearance as needed. Shoes are the one thing we do always buy new, but I try to at least get them on sale seasonally.

Their sales are awesome! The jeans were only $12 and I know they fit his skinny butt well (thank goodness for those adjustable waist thingys!). Plus, I hate returning stuff when I buy online (don't have TCP in town), so I like that I know their sizes.
Love hand me downs! Although we don't get many because my kids are the oldest cousins on both sides and most of our friends have lots of kids and keep their stuff... Like we do... It gets reused until it gets thrown out![]()
When I was pg with DD I went freaking NUTS buying new clothes online. I was on bedrest so I couldn't go anywhere. But I don't think I've bought her anything new in probably 3 years. I've never bought anything brand new for Ben except for the hoodie. Everything has been passed down, and in DOUBLES, since the cousins are twins.I'm just waiting for the 'Mom, I just HAVE to have a ________ pair of shoes or a ________ pair of jeans!!!!" to start up in the next few years. How does one NOT give in to your kid's desire to have what the other kids have?
Not sure where you live, but Old Navy is my favorite place to buy the kids clothes online. All we have is a Walmart, so..... Anyways, Old Navy has free shipping over $50, and FREE RETURNS!!! You just put what you dont want back in the original package, stick on the included label and throw it in the mail. So handy, especially when you have kids and are never sure what the right size should be.

Argh. Therein lies my issue. I'm an instant gratification type girl, so I force myself to take the kids to the mall with me so that I can make sure it fits the first time. I will qualify that last sentence by saying I never ever ever take them at the same time. One at a time is the only way I maintain my composure in public. DD loves to go to the mall with me. DS just loves to run up and down the concourse, hiding behind pillars and scaring the wits out of me. We just go an OshKosh/Carter's outlet near my house, so I'm curious to see if they have any good deals. They were advertising $10 jeans and pretty decent 2-for-1 deals.
Like I said, we only have a Walmart, which not only limits our options (I hate all the disney crap they sell), but it also means that every other child in town is wearing the same clothes as your kid. Makes things hard at the playground
That is another thing I love about hand me downs though. Since the clothes can be years old, the chances of seeing a bunch of other kids in the same clothes is slim.
Happy story that fits here: I posted on facebook that I am looking for hand me downs for my kids for winter and a friend took up a collection amongst all her friends for me, and she is dropping them off for me this afternoon. Plus, an acquaintance is sending all her older girls clothes my way as well. Im so excited! Feels like Christmas!

I buy clothes throughout the year depending on what is needed. I also buy at the beginning of the season as many things from the previous year are too small.
DD is at the stage where she grows like a weed so I try not to buy her too many new things - and if I do they tend to be a size big. I do a lot of thrift store shopping and hand me downs for her - especially play clothes - as I know she will either wear it once or wear it out. This way when we do want to spend a bit on new clothes for her we can.
DSD is a teenager so she doesn't do too many second hand things. We give her money each month to go towards clothes, make up etc. This is supposed to take care of most of her basic needs. She is responsible for making sure she has what she needs. She also gets some new clothes for fall as she has often grown out of some things from last year. It is nice to get at least one new outfit for school so she usually gets something. This year she chose a really nice jacket and sweater that should keep her warm all winter. I am happy with that.
