And it probably would have been the end of my marriage, too, since my husband was even less ready for parenthood than I was. Every fertilized egg shouldn't have to become a person.

I am sorry for your experience. I do want you to understand that my wanting abortion to be illegal does not mean that I hate or dislike anyone who has been in that situation.

You're correct that she wasn't any more "alive" than an unborn baby, but she did have far more rights, simply due to being outside your body, separated from your body. The debate isn't about when we all think life begins, or who gets to decide whose life is worth living, it's about who has the rights to a woman's body. She does. Period.

And my wanting abortion to be safe, legal, and accessible, is because I want every child who *IS* born to be loved & wanted & supported & cared for properly. If you don't believe in abortion, don't have one, but don't take away my right to control my own body and make the right decisions for my family.

Not to turn this into an abortion debate and Alyssa I do feel that life begins at conception but I never want a fetus to have rights that are going to trump mine. Why? Because as it is everything pregnant women do is scrutinized. Drinking, coffee, tuna etc. Do you really want someone to say "Hey you are in legal trouble because you had that 2nd tuna sandwich this week" it would open a can of worms.

Not to mention abortion has been around forever. We just need to let our women be safe.

Here is a great article I found on Pinterest the other day of why abortion needs to be legal. If you are prolife we need to be pro woman's life too.

I confess to not reading the entire article, just the first few pages.

I think we can make concessions for if the life of the mother is in danger. As I posted earlier if you take away for the life of the mother and baby and even for rape you are still talking about millions of babies dying. That is more people than died in the Holocaust! I do not buy the argument that people would do it anyway. There are people out there who will rape, kill, and rob other people. Do we make it legal because "They will do it anyway"? As for thinking we will over regulate a pg woman, it is known to be unsafe to smoke around your children. It is still legal. It is known to be unhealthy to feed your child nothing but junk food and processed foods. It is still legal.

Just because something has been around forever does not mean it is right. Discrimination against homosexuals has been around forever. Will you stop working to change the laws because it has been around forever?

You need to read the whole article. Abortion has been in the USA since the 1700s and only became illegal because physicians were afraid of losing out to companies that promoted abortificants (?sp) and midwives performing them in the home. Women have been trying to get rid of pregnancies for ages and for a variety of reasons. To make it illegal makes it unsafe.
