Okay, who was it on here who told me about zulilly?
I just ordered a real Kitchen Aid stand mixer, on sale for cheap, I can't believe it. Dave said GO FOR IT so I went for it. I figure since I bake at least 5 days a week (sometimes more) it makes sense. Holy moly.
I do love my Sunbeam though....I hope it's not offended.
Nice Laurie! You will love it, especially the way you bake :) I can't believe you don't like almond extract! Do you like almonds? One thing I love to bake is biscotti. There is a recipe for them on my sisters blog that I sent you, its my italian grandmothers recipe and a beloved family tradition, you should try them, they are FANTASTIC.
I can't wait. It'll be a whole new world.

I like biscotti but I don't love it. Since I'm focused on healthy (and Weight Watchers-friendly) baking (minus birthday cupcakes for husbands & whatnot) I tend to focus more on muffins & quickbreads.
I heart almond extract. I love the smell too.
So happy for you and your mixer! May you have a long life together!
I don't think I told you about Zulily but I love it. I've gotten some great buys on there...but it can be overwhelming with how many different vendors they feature at once. That's where I got Tom's for me and kids for $20, which is WAY cheaper than you can usually find them!
So glad you got a KitchenAid! And, I also hate almond extract. Yech. Not a big almond fan, though, either.
There are so many things I wouldn't eat if they tasted the way they smell -- Parmesan cheese, yogurt, eggs, eggplant, soy sauce. I don't like the way Amaretto smells but love the flavor.
The cupcakes came out great!!! They tasted like root beer with cream soda whipped cream on top. Texture & flavor were spot on. Dave was really happy with them. Very very unusual recipe and lots of fun!
Hey all. Back from vacation. 4 days of sun out of 14, including today. Nevertheless, I am glad to be home. Next time, we're going someplace more holiday-ish, like Mexico. I put up with an uncomfortable bed, a skunk, an ear infection (mine), and my mother thinking that every time I opened my mouth and said "Honey..." and looking at DH or one of the kids I was talking to her. Much, much, much happier now that we're home. :)
We're heading out tomorrow for four days of camping. Weston has had a goopy eye the last couple of days along with a cold, and to make things worse he got bonked in the face yesterday with a basketball when we were picking up Tiven, and he scraped up his leg while riding his scooter, and the goopy eye is now affecting both eyes. Despite the multiple bandaids and needing to hold a warm wet washcloth to his eyes, he's in good spirits but definitely needing a long nap every day, which is not the norm for him. He still wants to be doing everything even though his body is telling him to rest, he's not listening! And he's not listening to me, either! Ugh... I have fingers crossed that he's either completely over this tomorrow, or tired enough to give his body the rest it needs. As much as I want to explore a new-to-us grove of redwoods, I'd be more happy to stay at camp with a boy who wants to rest.
What's going on my friends? Its been more than 3 WHOLE DAYS since we last 'chatted' :)
I've been busy lately. My job goes in spurts between downtime and regular days and what seems to be crisis mode with crazy hours...I am heading into a crisis mode period so I have not been quite as busy on here.
We had our family pictures taken on Sunday. I can't wait to see how they turned out! I think some of them will be very cute. The photographer was so nice. She has a two year old daughter and I bet she and Cecilia would have a lot of fun together.
Oh, i can give an update on the stupid baseball thing. So after my initial complaining a while back...the very next game coach put Aodhan at third base for two innings. This made Aodhan happy and I thought to myself "okay...maybe he's going to change things up for the rest of the season!" So i said nothing to the coach. Well...those two innings were the last two innings and it was back to the same boring routine for Aodhan. I kept waiting, thinking things would change and i waited too long and before I knew it the season was basically over.
I had a talk with the father of one of Aodhan's friends, who assistant coaches the other 9YO team like Aodhan's. He said they do things entirely differently. They switch the kids positions about every 2 innings, they listen to the kids and pay attention to where they say they are interested in playing. Overall he said its been a really good experience. So that really frustrated me.
Last Saturday was Aodhan's last game so Friday night i decided to send an email to the coach. I wasn't accusatory, i focused more on the fact that Aodhan had a discouraging experience this baseball season and that I needed help from the coach on fixing that. Since there was only one game left, i just asked the coach to have a one on one talk with Aodhan, to tell him he's a good player and that he should keep playing. I had told him how Aodhan used to love baseball and now he doesn't seem interested anymore. It was lengthier than that but that was the gist of it. Coach wrote back a quick "Of course I will, no problem" and that was it.
Come Saturdays' game, coach had Aodhan play third base the entire game. I'm 100% certain he did this because of my letter even though I did not ask him to. Aodhan played GREAT. He was on top of everything and tagged a runner stealing third. He also had an excellent line drive for his first at bat, right up through second base. He also walked and scored both of those times. It was also an exciting game in which they won by 1 run in the final inning. Then one of his teammates asked if he could go to the local roller skating rink/laser tag place afterwards so he had a fun night out to end the day. It was a real high note to end the season on I think. I thanked the coach afterwards. He told me he did talk to Aodhan and also agreed that he seemed to have a good day. Regardless of if he decides to play baseball again or not, i'm glad i said something even if it was last minute. And I'm glad i had some tips from my sister on how to word things...to get the outcome that I wanted, instead of a fight!
My summer babysitter started this week. So far she has been awesome. She has had the kids outside most of the day each day and the kids have really enjoyed it. Aodhan has been at an engineering camp all week this week (yes i signed him up for yet another camp! this one is so cool though) so she hasn't really had all 4 at once yet (Cecilia still goes to daycare).
Thats all for now!
