My Mother In Law flew in to help with the girls while I recover. Normally I dread her visits, but I am very thankful that she has come. Today she has taken the girls to their co-op classes. It is very strange to be in the house all alone. That never happens. Everything is so quiet. I am finally starting to feel more normal, although I am supposed to rest until the second surgery. I am thankful that my girls are old enough to not need picking up all the time.
I saw the podiatrist today about my bunion and the pain on the outside of my foot. The bunion is forcing me to walk on the outside of my foot, hence the pain there. So I have to have another bunion surgery. He said the surgery has changed a lot since I had the other one done 8 years ago and that I shouldn't experience much recovery pain. That's a relief. I had images of having to ask my mom to fly out and take care of the kids for a week. Last time the recovery was freaking awful. Plus, this time I don't need to have the Waterman osteotomy done on top of the bunion removal. He said I'll be back in shoes within 2 weeks. Now the bad news....I can go on the waiting list for 2 YEARS or pay privately....$2500. I can't wait two whole years, not when I'm chasing kids around and stuff. Thank goodness I still haven't deposited my income tax return yet. I'll have to dive into that. The clinic is going to get an insurance assessment done to see how much my plan will cover. Hopefully it will cover all of it but somehow I doubt it.
OH no! Good luck with that. Sounds painful. Bonita, I'm glad you're getting some rest, and Kim, I'm in awe of your expressive 3-year-old.
Juliet is coming down with a cold so Dave ran out to pick up supplies so he can make her some chicken soup. Puts a smile on my girl's face.
My second newspaper column hit the stands today. Fun!
I finally made it home from Dallas late last night. Luckily my boss told me it was fine to come in late today, so I slept in a bit. I'm off tomorrow to work at the Kids Marathon Expo, pick up my race packet, and rest up! Three more days until the marathon - yikes!!!
Anyone have a simple way to warm up corn tortillas without a microwave? When I'm making tacos, I warm them one at a time in a small skillet, but this time I'm making tostadas in a muffin tin. The recipe says to microwave them for 15 seconds in a damp paper towel. I'm hoping to hand this dinner prep over to DH and I would love to make it be as simple as possible.
Unless it's a muffin or a quick bread, I'm at a loss in the kitchen. Sorry.
Okay, any bloggers out there with advice? I am trying to figure out how to get more traffic (and COMMENTS) on my blog and I'm not sure if the trouble is the content -- too boring? too personal? too who cares? -- or just that I'm not really out there much. I do post on other food blogs and I finally got a Facebook page, but I'm wondering what else I could be doing. Would love insights, I know some of you have successful blogs out there.
(And yeah, I'm working on my photography....I have the challenge of baking at night in a kitchen with bad lighting.)
I use a broiler pan in the oven with water in the bottom piece. I have never had good luck with that in the microwave. In the oven they are nice and warm and moist
So...I finished my first marathon today. I think labor and delivery was so much easier  . I was slower than I hoped, but I still finished and that's all that really mattered in my book. Now to pour myself into a nice nap!
