Granted -- that was a millennium ago. *sigh* I received a picture of my niece and her date recently as she attended her 7th grade dance (held at a nearby country club). It was very dressy... dinner out first... and then on to the dance that ended at 11 p.m. She looked too grown up (and dad definitely wasn't ready for that!)
Oh these aren't formal! Her school has had four middle school dances over the course of the year. It consists of standing in their gym, with a DJ...and the kids either dancing, fooling around, or just standing awkwardly. And there is a snack counter too. Each one was themed. The first was something i don't remember, the second was super heroes, the third was black and white and this last one is "Keep it cool". She has worn jeans and some sort of top to each one. This one is shorts and t-shirts. They actually originally said this one would be dressier...but somewhere a long the way they changed their minds i guess. I think the 8th grade gets to pick the theme.

Juliet is almost 6 and hasn't lost any teeth yet. I think Nathaniel was 6 or 7 when he lost his first one. All the other kids are ahead of them on that front.

Today we have our big company meeting, so instead of doing the work we WANT to do, we have to go to some big fancy place, listen to a few hours of talks & clip reels, then eat an expensive lunch. I'm down with the lunch part but still....I'd rather work.

I'm hoping to get home a bit early today, though, so maybe that'll help. I have photography class tonight and it's really hard on the kids when I come home and then run out the door again ten minutes later.

Juliet had me up all night, she came downstairs to sleep with us, then she & I moved to the couch because of Dave's snoring, then she started asking me questions starting at 5:45 and crying when I told her I needed to sleep. OY!

Last day of school here. So bittersweet! I'm a room parent so it was my job to put together a gift for the teacher. Thankfully another room parent has been reading the monthly flyers he sends home (which sometimes include an "our favorites" list of some sort if there's room to spare) because she knew that two of his favorite things are prime rib and fresh peaches. So we gave him a gift certificate to House of Prime Rib, a dozen fresh peaches (four each of three varieties), a big bouquet of flowers, and $120 in cash. Last night I realized that I didn't have anything nice to put the money in, like the little sock at the holidays. The teacher is Chinese and it's traditional to give cash in a red envelope so I was kicking myself for not picking up a red envelope while I was at the bank earlier. DH is into origami, so he found a large piece of red origami paper & folded it into an envelope for me!

I had Weston in my bed all night. DH had promised him a father/son sleepover in the front room but "Hunger Games" came from Netflix so DH canceled and Weston got ticked off. It set off a huge tantrum, after which he refused to get into his own bed. I went to use the bathroom and when I came out, he was snuggled in my bed so I left him there and he was asleep within minutes. I was kind of ticked off with DH for cancelling on Weston, too, so I left Weston there and DH slept in the front room by himself.
David Letterman is retiring. Such great memories of watching him over the past thirty-two years!

This happened one evening earlier this month:

and this happened about a minute later:

That made # 5 and #6 in less than one year and she just turned 6 in March. You should see the ginormous tombstones that are coming in on the top. OMG. Thank god for dental coverage.

The only reason those 2 teeth both came out that night was that DH accidentally bashed her in the mouth with the electric toothbrush when he went to brush her teeth at bedtime. The one tooth started to bleed like mad because it was already sooooo loose and jutting out at a 90 degree angle practically. Once that one came out we could feel how loose the other one was, so I popped that one out too. She was so happy when they were gone, but you can tell by the pic she'd been crying (the blood fah-reeked the poor child out).
