Maple syrup? You don't like maple syrup? What's not to adore about maple syrup?

Okay, I have lived in America for more than 20 years and I can't stand ketchup or apple pie.

Well, I'm British but live in Canada, and I love beer, and maple syrup, and poutine (though I haven't had poutine in years because it's so bad for you). Y'all are nuts - the ones who don't like beer. My fave summer beer is Okanagan Springs Apricot Summer Weizen. Who likes Caesars? I do, I do!! I can only drink one though, and it has to be mixed from scratch. I can't stand those pre-mixed Mott's ones. Tall gin and tonic with lots of ice and lime. Yummy. Naked Grape shiraz spritzers....so good. It seems like I'm obsessed with booze or something. lol...

My brother makes maple syrup. He and a buddy with a bunch of land tap maples and run lines in the spring and collect the sap and boil it down. It's pretty yummy.

Well Stampede is over and considering the grounds were under water just a few weeks ago I'd say it was a success. 1.1 million people went through the gates. The record is 1.4 million and that was set last year.

I was listening to the news this morning and the provincial government is going to give out a gajillion dollars to help the flood victims either rebuild or move (those houses that were destroyed in the city were all built on a flood plain, as most of downtown is). If they choose to rebuild and they get flooded again in the future they won't get a penny in aid. That's the plan. Kind of rough, but still I understand why. The government can't be giving out billions of dollars every so many years.

I hear you. I've slung more than a few drinks in my lifetime. I used to work with this bartender who always killed her Caesars by adding like 3 times the Worcestershire she should have. Gross. Caesars were always good with Sunday morning brunch.

How was everyone's weekend? Laurie, sounds like you had a nice trip. Glad you are fully recovered too!

We went hiking yesterday. Picked a hike about an hour from here, there is a great series about hikes all over Maine on a blog from our local newspaper. It was a HOT day and we got a later start than i would have liked but it was still great to get out. Beautiful views.

Nathalie does NOT enjoy hiking it would seem. Its been a while since we have gone and she was not pleased with all the 'work' that goes into it. She is just not a naturally 'physical' child...never has been compared to the others. In that sense i kind of feel bad because its an activity that the rest of us all seem to enjoy and is good to do as a family. She's kind of funny though, she will complain a lot but never really causes any trouble or serious drama. And if I take a picture? She'll pose for it and look all smiley happy like she's having fun. Later on that day when we got home she said to my MIL "Una, we went on a terrible hike". Not in a dramatic tone, just very matter of factly.

I think we are going to do a lot more hiking between now and the warm part of fall (I am not super fond of cold weather hiking). I'll have to pick some flatter/easier trails so that Nathalie can get used to it more easily and perhaps not hate it as much.

The older kids were slightly frustrated too because we didn't go all the way to the summit. With the younger ones and how hot it was, we decided to turn around and go back after we got to the first good overlook. Its difficult to please everyone when you have such a wide range of ability and interest. I told the older kids that later this summer we'd go back to the same spot with just them and hike all the way to to the top if they wanted to.

My phone camera takes great panoramic shots i found out!:

    Gorgeous photo, Kim!

I was sort of like that....I was never an outdoorsy kid or a physical kid, but my siblings were. I just wanted to curl up in a ball with a book, inside. (I like hiking now, though, as long as it's not really buggy.)

Send her to me, we'll hang out and read books while everyone else is running around outside.

Ceasars, poutine, maple syrup, apple pie.....yum! You guys are making me hungry!
Lisa, good to hear the stampede went well.
Laurie, sounds like a great weekend. We just hung around the house while DH fixed stuff He was supposed to have the whole month off this month, and by the time it was all said and done, he got 3 days. And has court today even though he isnt supposed to work Mondays. At least today is overtime, but going on holiday or working doesnt normally make a difference to his pay cause he has so much time saved up, so it has really sucked to have all his holiday time taken away. Not only havent we been able to go anywhere like we planned, but he spent all his time off working on things around the house and didnt even get a chance to relax.

I am attempting to make bread in my dutch oven this morning. I have never made bread before, so I'm not sure, but it didnt seem to rise enough overnight. I just put the dough in the oven though, so we will see in half an hour

No she's 6! My 3 year old did great actually. We used the backpack carrier for some of it, but she also walked and climbed a lot of it herself...no complaints really, and still smiling at the end! Its just Nathalie's pesronality. She doesn't like strenuous physical activity...at least none that i have found yet! She also doesn't like competition, so competitive sports hold no interest to her. She does like to play in the pool when we go swimming though, but even then, its not very physical play. I do wish i could find something physical she enjoys and would do routinely though...not to turn her into some serious athlete or anything, just to ensure she works something active into her lifestyle.

But Laurie, i'm glad to ship her off to you for a while too! Next time we are in NY i want to take the kids to Mohonk Mountain, near New Paltz. Such a fun hike. Maybe i can drive the extra distance and drop her off with you beforehand

Mohonk is BEAUTIFUL and fantastic for hiking. We even did a hike in the rain there, my whole family (pre-kids, but extended family) and it was fantastic and fun.

Yes, drop her off. She and Juliet can hang out.

This weekend the kids are away! Crazy, right?

So Thursday we have my brother, his wife, and their two daughters coming to stay, I'm very excited. Then they'll go to Fire Island and come back in a week. In the meantime the kids are away Saturday & Sunday. In addition to extra yoga classes and going to an actual movie & dinner with my beloved husband, we are going to rent a dumpster (how romantic) and throw away all the CRAP in our house, plus stuff bags full of clothing to donate. It's time! We are also getting some stuff fixed up around our house, it's getting nuts.

Of course I want to bake like crazy too.....all I want to do is bake but when the kids ask for snuggling, I snuggle. Gotta grab it while they still want it.
